I modified it into a CNC lathe using Linuxcnc.
Since it can use the C-axis, it can also process screws.

Excellent mods! I would suggest getting a brush to remove the spoil, rather than using your hand, as the shaving has the potential to get caught in the chuck, and it would cut you to the bone, taking most of the flesh from your fingers, within a millisecond. Or, use compressed air to blow it out of the way. Safety first!

Amazing results! I have the barebones lathe you're modifying in the video and would like to know which other cutting 'blades' you're using? Were they hand made/ ground to shape yourself, or is there somewhere we can purchase them. Mine only came with the one (square-ended piece of hardened stock).

After seeing so many really bad pieces produced by this very sketchy machine, it's good to see that, like the ubiquitous CNC engravers, you really CAN make real things (though very slowly) with it.

To use a stepper motor for thread cutting is a great idea. It gives big torque at low rpm. Also it does not require a spindle position sensor then. You should try if it is pissible in your software to advance the thread cutting tool not straight, but under 29 degree. Then it makes chips just on the front cutting edge. This reduces cutting force and torque.
@a-cnc-f

It is possible. I will try it as needed in the future.

Amazing work. You need more visibility on youtube. If you can, mine is only a suggestion, show more of the process, remove the audio and leave the beautiful sound of cnc machining when the video is real time. It will be fantastic if you make a "shopping list" (like a simple excel) for the 5 axis machine and the lathe whit the upgrades that you made. Great job.

For someone who already has a 3D printer and a CNC milling machine, it is no problem to build something like this, if you don't have it you can get the Unimat1 ML which is already available with CNC machines. Für jemanden der schon einen 3D-Drucker hat und auch ein CNC-Fräte ist das kein Problem so etwas zu bauen, wer es nicht hat kann sich die Unimat1 ML holen de es auch schon mit CNC-Maschinen gibt. @a-cnc-f Жыл бұрын
LinuxCNC (formerly Enhanced Machine Controller or EMC2) is a free, open-source Linux software system that implements numerical control capability using general purpose computers to control CNC machines. Designed by various volunteer developers at linuxcnc.org, it is typically bundled as an ISO file with a modified version of 32-bit Ubuntu Linux which provides the required real-time kernel.

3d printer language = G code, M code Beaglebone = one board PC machinekit (linuxcnc) = OS that can be cnc (Computerized Numerical Control) This machine works with machinekit (linuxcnc) installed on beglebone. The stepping motor is set in the INI file in it. An ordinary CNC machine has an origin switch, which determines the origin of the machine. I think 3018 is not strong enough. The reason I chose the 3010 should be that the stroke of each axis is short and the frame is small so it's strong. The longer the linear shaft, the lower the strength.
