Al Muqaddimah

Күн бұрын

With the caliphate now in Muawiyah's hands, turned into a full-scale empire, a new era for the caliphate begins.
In this episode, I discuss Muawiyah's rule and the crisis of Succession that led to the second civil war between the Ummayads and Abdullah ibn Az Zubayr.
In Islamic Civilization in Thirty Lives by Chase F. Robinson, Abd al-Malik ibn Marwan is the fourth name. As the author puts it, "After Muhammad, Abd al-Malik did more than anyone else to engineer a religio-political vision of the caliphal rule". Abd al-Malik canonized the empire part of Islamic Empire. All the subsequent Islamic empires would follow his model.
Additional Facts:
1) The Ummayad Mosque in Damascus is believed by most Muslims to be the place Jesus will appear near the end of days.
2) Greek Fire was especially used in Naval Battles by the Byzantines because it couldn’t be extinguished by water.
3) Muawiyah was buried in a shirt that previously belonged to Muhammad who had gifted him the shirt.
4) The Ummayads including Muawiyah used a completely white flag. However, now, it’s used as a declaration of surrender.
5) Al-Mukhar’s revolt is also called the Shia Revolt but at this point, “Shia” was only someone who supported Ali’s family for the caliphate, not a sect.

All sunni Muslim at one point is the followers of Ali. I meant all Sunni scholars agreed that Muawiya is the wrong side in the battle of camel. And we all support the opinion that Ali is the righteous Caliph. I felt the same way about Ibn Zubair. He deserved to be remember as a good Caliph. Yazid and also Marwan is just awful pretender. Even maybe not deserved to be called as believer.. And Muawiya II is just a small kid on a bad family.

@@ahmadganteng7435 brother we cant decide who was right and who was wrong. Surely Ali RA is more righteous and knowledgable than Amir Muawiyah RA. But both of them are Sahabi. Ali RA fought because he had to, afterall he was the caliph. Muawiyah RA fought because his demands were not fulfilled. Muawiyah RA didnt took oath of bai'yah on Ali RA. But Talha RA and Zubayr RA did in Medina. Ali RA asked the two men if they are willing to become caliph or else he would become caliph, due to khwarij threats. Both of these men Talha RA and Zubayr RA said to Ali RA you would become caliph and took ba'iyah from us. After giving bai'yah to Ali RA. These two men then went to Makkah along with Ibn Abi bakr RA, who also gave bai'yah to Ali RA in medina. In makkah they met Aisha RA and told her the entire story and it were these two men who encouraged her to rebel. Aisha RA knew nothing what was happening in medina. Muhammad Ibn Abi bakr RA refused to rebel because he said he had given bai'yah to Ali RA. Not to mention, both of these Companians (Talha RA and Zubayr RA) are from 'Ashra Mubashara. Which means they were blessed jannah before they died. The situation is very complex. We are no one to judge who was wrong and who was correct.

I know that who behind the poisoning is unclear. But it is clear that it is to make his nomination of Yazid to work.. History is very important. An ulama that deny history is a clear liar.. Although I don't buy the distorted history that all but few companions deserted Islam because Ali was not made the Khalifa, the establishment of Dynasty by the Ummayad was and has been the biggest disservice to Islam. It changed how leadership was elected hence capable Muslims who could have been leaders were ignored. It opened the door for weak and ungodly leaders through blood which the early companions refused to consider. Islam is the way it is today because of that single act of establishing Dynasty by Muawiah and his family. Keep up the good work...

I wish you can elaborate more about Abd Malik ibn Marwan. I heard, Hajjaj and he standarized Arabic diacritic with the help of two students of Abu al-Aswad al-Du'ali. His dinar/gold coin also evolved from simply imitation of Byzantine and Persian coin, to have figure of himself (standing caliph) in the coin and eventually iconoclast no-human-figure coin. I also heard he pardoned Ibn Zubair brother, Urwah and later had several correspondence which may lead to the development of Sirah (history of Muhammad).

The proof is no palace being built during their era and all of them died as a poor man, not because they stripped out of their fortune during their fall, but because they believe that wealth will only give them trouble in the afterlife so they decided to give their parts from spoil of war to Baitul Mal for the people and take no salary as caliph because it's not a job.

No, I don't. It is the "official" (?). I don't know how it is called. It appears complete, in a single time, not in that way like the autogenerated, appearing as the word is spoke. Sorry if I cannot explain it.

I think the official subtitles are working, no? Help me on this. I'm putting my original script here. See and check if it's correct as compared to the subtitles, please. The First Umayyads & The Crisis of Succession | 661CE - 705CE With the caliphate now in Muawiyah’s hands, turned into a full-scale empire, a new era for the caliphate begins. Muawiyah ascended to the throne of the Caliph in 661 CE, when Ali’s son and heir, Hassan ibn Ali gave him the caliphate. Before I forget, Muawiya was the son of Abu Sufyan ibn Harb, whom you might remember from the third episode as a leader of Quraysh. By this point, I’ve been using the word office for Caliphate but now, I’m using throne because this actually marked a shift in the Caliphate. Before, it used to be a religious title as well as a secular one but now, it was more secular. The caliphate looked like an empire. The caliphs no longer adhered to simplicity. Muawiyah was an emperor, not much different than the Byzantine Emperor. It’s said that after his ascension, he came to Madinah to talk to the people. In his inaugural address, he said “O people! By Allah, it is easier to move the firm mountains than to follow Abu Bakr and 'Umar in their behaviour. But I have followed their way of conduct falling short of those before me, but none after me will equal me in it." He was talking about their simplicity, their austerity. He made it clear that he’s not gonna follow them in that and not only he, but no one after him is gonna follow that either. His words eventually proved prophetic. He decided to keep Damascus as his capital, because he had been Governor of Syria for around 20 years, it was his stronghold. In fact, during Uthman’s time, Muawiyah was arguably more powerful than the caliph himself because of his iron grip on Syria. Now, he was ready to spread that grip to all of the Empire. Muawiyah styled himself as an emperor. He had all the prestige of the Byzantine Emperor himself. He built a great court rivaling Constantinople in Damascus. He had a huge library of books called Bayt al-Hikmah. Basically, a proto house of Wisdom. He was just. He treated minorities with kindness. In fact his wife was a Christian and a poet. He was strict but also generous and a hell of a diplomat. He united the shattering empire that the First Fitna had left behind. He got even his worst opponents to side with him. Muawiyah dealt with the Kharijite threat that Ali had failed to deal with. He forced them into the shadows where they would lurk and plot for four hundred years against the Caliph. Muawiyah had already developed a navy during his time as governor but as caliph he expanded it. Muawiyah fought the first Muslim engagement on the Sea and then, he eventually laid siege to Constantinople, the capital of the Byzantines. Both of these were to fulfill Muhammad’s prophecies. Muhammad promised heaven to the first Muslim navy and the Muslims who conquer Constantinople. Muawiyah’s siege of Constantinople failed pretty quickly when they introduced Greek Fire. Remember the battle of Blackwater Bay from Game of Thrones? Yeah, it was exactly like that. With Muawiyah’s son, Yazid as Stannis Baratheon. They lost. During his twenty years as Caliph, he made the empire, modern, for the lack of a better word. He installed a postal service for communication. He declared edicts to help trade and agriculture. He did not rely on aristocracy but installed people on merit, most of his most trusted officials weren’t even from Quraysh let alone his family, a tradition, his successors wouldn’t follow. So, ironically, his most influential and controversial act, was the appointment of his son, Yazid as his successor. Yazid was a seasoned general but he had no knowledge of politics. He was very unpopular and many people tried to warn Muawiyah against appointing Yazid but well, when Muawiyah died in 680 CE, Yazid ascended to the throne. Yazid ruled for around three years. As he was unpopular, the hostilities from the Civil War that his father had managed to keep quiet, started to rise up. Two of his most prominent rivals were Hussain ibn Ali and Abdullah ibn az-Zubayr. Now, Yazid is too controversial so I’m not gonna go into it. Just know that the rebellion of Hussain ibn Ali was brutally pressed down in Karbala and Yazid died before he could push down Abdullah ibn az-Zubayr’s rebellion. He is one of, if not the most hated people in Islam today because according the general belief, he killed Hussain ibn Ali in a brutal fashion. A lot of sources about Yazid portray him to be like the ultimate evil but I have never really believed most of those sources. I’ll talk about that some other day. His son Muawiyah II ruled for around 18 days before he died childless in 683 CE, ensuing the empire into a crisis of succession. At this point, Abdullah ibn az-Zubayr was in full rebellion. He had even established a rival caliphate in Mecca. When Muawiyah II died, it didn’t look like anyone other than ibn az-Zubayr would take charge. However, one of Muawiyah I’s cousin, Marwan ibn Al-Hakam declared himself heir of Muawiyah II. This started a second Civil War between Marwan and ibn az-Zubayr. Ibn az-Zubayr had solid support throughout the empire and Marwan, who had always been seen as a shady character, lacked any support. Although, thanks to his relationship with Muawiyah I, he was able to secure support in Syria. In 684 CE, Ibn Az-Zubayr sent an army to destroy the pretender Umayyad Caliphate in Syria. This resulted in the Battle of Marj Rahit which ibn az-Zubayr lost. Hence, Marwan was able to secure all of Syria. Marwan died in 685 CE, around six months after this battle. He was succeeded by his son Abd al-Malik ibn Marwan. Abd al-Malik, unlike his father, was a capable man. He was trusted and managed to gather more support than his father. Meanwhile, new rebellions broke out. Kharijites sprung up and another party entered the civil war. A man called Mukhtar al-Thaqafi declared revolution to avenge Hussain ibn Ali’s death. Abd al-Malik moved to secure as much area as he could because provinces were quickly rallying behind ibn az-Zubayr. Meanwhile, ibn az-Zubayr sent his brother Mus’ab to deal with Al-Mukhtar’s rebellion. Al-Mukhtar was defeated and killed in 687 CE after two years in revolt by Mus’ab ibn az-Zubayr’s forces. On the other side, Abd al-Malik appointed a general who was cruel, ruthless but effective, Al-Hajjaj ibn Yusuf. Al-Hajjaj spent the next five years tearing Abdullah ibn az-Zubayr’s caliphate apart. Eventually, in 692 CE, he laid siege to Mecca, ibn az-Zubayr’s capital. This was shocking because Mecca was a haram and no Muslim could shed blood there but Al-Hajjaj didn’t care. By this point, ibn az-Zubayr had no allies. His family had abandoned him, his allies had left him behind due to fear of Al-Hajjaj ibn Yusuf’s cruelty. Ibn az-Zubayr died near Kaaba in a brave last stand. He was brutally murdered and his body was mutilated. Through this, Abd al-Malik secured the Arabian Empire. He established himself as the sole Caliph. Abd al-Malik himself was disturbed by Al-Hajjaj’s brutality. He gave him Iraq to govern and complete autonomy. Abd al-Malik went on to become a great caliph, despite the violence at the start. The 14th-century Arab historian and philosopher Ibn Khaldun in his book, Al-Muqaddimah, HEY! THAT’S THE NAME OF THE CHANNEL, stated that "Abd al-Malik ibn Marwan was one of the greatest Arab and Muslim Caliphs. He followed in the footsteps of `Umar ibn al-Khattab, the Commander of the Believers, in regulating state affairs". He reigned for thirteen years after this. His time was fairly peaceful from thereon. He built the Dome of the Rock in Jerusalem, which still stands as a landmark and an important religious symbol. He minted a currency for the Islamic Caliphate which eventually resulted in a battle with the Byzantines. Minting coins was the ultimste sign of authority, it was the propaganda machine at the time. The entire empire using the coin with his face on it was a powerful gesture. He also reorganized the postal service started by Muawiyah. He repair Ka’aba which had been damaged during the Siege of Mecca, beginning the tradition of weaving a silk cover for the Kaaba in Damascus, still continued to this day. He died in 705 CE and was succeeded by his son Al-Walid ibn Abd al-Malik. He is known as “Father of Kings” because four of his sons ascended to the throne one after the other. See you next time.

For a "religion of Peace" its intriguing how the entire Islamic history immediately after inception is mainly about conquests and assassination of their leaders in internal strife. Did they even consider sending preachers for example to neighbouring countries? And the pride of the narrator in describing someone who "Never lost a battle" is a pointer. Would be OK if this was a series about military leadership rather than about a religion. At the end of the day, its not clear whether Islam is a religious or political movement. ( Note to replies if any : No personal/religious abuse please).

Oh you have no idea my friend, many reasons have been stated for this, but I'm not gonna mention any of them since they are highly controversial (I don't fancy having a shia vs sunni fight here, the hate is problematic), but as a muslim, I personally believe that the community went wrong somewhere in the path of history and that is the main cause of the fighting
@zaryabshah6060
@zaryabshah6060 9 ай бұрын
Well bro mostly the fighting came when after the death of our beloved prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), Muslims decided to not just abandon his family, but to actively go to war with them and try and oppress and humiliate them. The very family the prophet told his nation to protect and love. Hence why I advise you look and research into the Shia sect of Islam where questions like these can be answered with much certainty and clarification. The Shia leaders, mainly being direct descendants of the prophets lineage actively stayed out of warfare and preached the religion in a peaceful manner, that is until the proto Sunnis killed them merely for their popularity. But again, I do not want to make this reply long anyway for you to read, but you can reply back to me in which I can personally sent you research material on our sect.

Well done for correctly identifying the ending of the Khilafah by Mu'awiya who instituted the first monarchy (Mulk) in Islamic history. By appointing his son Yazid successor to his rule he reneged on the agreement he made with the Prophet's grandson, Hassan, which was that he could not determine the succession after himself. Many ignorant Muslims praise Mu'awiya and call him a Sahabi, but he deserves to be known instead for his opposition and hypocrisy at the time of the Prophet, his treason toward Ali, his counter-revolution against Islamic rule according to the pattern of Muhammad (pbuh) and his Khulufuh al-Rashideen, and the institution of the tyranny of monarchy by nominating his drunkard licentious son Yazid the cursed who massacred Hussain Ibn Ali. All in all, Mu'awiya deserves only our repudiation together with our hope that he is judged by the Almighty for these major intransigencies resulting in him servicing Satan in hell throughout the life to come.

Amir Muawiyah RA was not like the Rashidun Caliph, but he was surely a believer and true muslim. He established an empire because of the khwarij. We have seen Ali RA had failed previously to put down the rebellion of khwarij. So Amir Muawiyah RA had to do this. With his emperor like style, he made the government authoritarian rather than the caliphate because khwarij took the veil of muslims. I know i havent explained nicely but i hope the message has been conveyed.

About muslims in europe, i do believe that, if the Ummayads had managed to hold on to their possessions on southern France, would it be possible for something similar to what happened on Spain, I can only ikmagine the cultural impact of a few centuries of muslim occupation there would have, maybe the Occitan language, as has happened to the languages in Iberia, would have incorporated arabic influence. On the other side, i don´t see the muslims having control of western europe for much longer than a few decades, maybe even less, the empire was already overextended as it was, maybe after the iberian Ummayads, after the Abbasid Rev. and if they had managed to finish the northern christians, maybe could have challenged the Franks, perhaps at the 10th century when they were weakest. This kind fo alt-history speculation is fun.

@ali bazzi now hold on a second. Mind your language first, who are you to give "tickets" to hell or heaven. This was the motto of "Kharijites" when they first revolted against Osman and then against Ali for not fighting with "His Cousin" Muaviya. Ali was one of strongest of all but He knew this isn't His fight, then Hassan, why didnt Hassan stood against Muavia like His brother Hussein did in front of Yazid? Why didn't Hussein stood against so-called Oppression in the times of Muaviya? Muaviya ruled for 20 years. The years of peace and prosperity. Why did Hassan and Hussein not revolted against Him ? If they didn't stood against them then who are you & we to describe them as immoral. We can disagree with the appointment of Yazid by Muavia but you can't judge Muavia's faith. You can't judge Muavia's intention. Hussein standing in front of Yazid describes the time when Munafiqs and Real Muslims were differentiated . And let me ask you one thing, Imam's son is Imam but Muavia can't appoint his son ? You apply that for yourself only?? Peace be upon Hazrat Ali a.s. if you believe in Him, I want you to follow Him and His son's as well

@ali bazzi I'm not ignorant lmao I could say the same for you but it's not misinformation, it's just lack of information. Everyone had their part, good and bad. Muavia and Abi Sufiyan if they were Munafiqs then Prophet would tell the others to kill them, or Ali when he fought and won would have killed him, can't they differentiate between Munafiqs and Muslims?? Of course Ali could but he knew what was the God's will. Other than that wars end until you kill your enemy. We can't judge them ,we just can get the guidance, Their existence proved the Importance of Sacrifices of Ahlay Bait. You're talking about the books of those who wrote stuff in the times of Abbasids. I'm descender of Abbasids. I'm in the line of Qureysh , Heir of Prophet Mohammed's uncle Abbass. Indeed the Bestest family on Earth which Ever "was" & "is" is of Ahlay Bait. They're "Masoomayins" . & That's what We should do, follow them. Ameer Muavia was a "king" first "Muslim king" . I've read the books , although I don't quite remember the exact reference but lemme describe a bit to you. The day when Kharijites planned to kill Ali, there were two others whom they wanted to kill as well. They were Muavia, Amar Aas and Ali. Muavia when caught His assassin , assassin told him that I have a news which would please you the most, then assassin told that his brother would kill Ali , Muavia replied No one can kill Ali just like that, over it Assassin furiously said how couldn't someone kill Ali while He's praying, over it Muavia got angry and killed that Assassin. On the death of Ali ,Muavia cried and when His wife asked why are you crying,you and Ali fought before, Muavia said that you don't know how much Hollow space Ali has left. Then go look up yourself when Muavia married. He didn't marry for long cause Prophet would use to say to Him that "O Muavia! I smell the blood of my back from your Back" on because of that Muavia didn't marry for long, And so Prophet called and said to Muavia, don't be hard on yourself, it's Allah's will ,no one can change that . I myself disagree with Muavia's appointment for Yazid breaking the treaty with Hassan . But remember, enough of Blood of Muslims was spilled , and if there wasn't A strong candidate who uses His power ,everyone would have his own Caliph and Muslims would be in more civil war. You'd say Ahlay Bait have the best chance to be the Caliph, but here, The govt matters are something which Masoomayins can't deal with, they're for Religious guidance not For govt officials. That's how they were ,that's why they're Respected, that's why Imam Zainul Abideen didn't build his own Caliphate, that's why Imam Jaffer Sadiq didn't build his own Caliphate. Wherever there's filth, wherever there's Dirt, Ahlul Bait aren't there, as proven by Quran . That's how it's being put out, Ali never Fought Muavia, it was Muavia who fought Ali. And Ali is wisest among all companions, not just wisest but also the Best Judge. Once Omer said O Ali , what'd we do without you? . Ali was advisor of previous 3 Caliphs And when Ali became Caliph someone asked Him why is it anarchy in His Caliphate while the previous three Caliphs prospered , Ali replied "That's because i got you as my advisors where I was their advisor". It was test. It was all tests. Indeed Ali passed them all, in front of Him Muavia's way too less . But Remember Ali, nor any of his sons Protested against Muavia. It's 20 years rule, Hassan didn't die at the last year or something, & Ahlay Bait would accept hundred of thousands of dinars as pension from Muavia and Muavia would send a note with it " o Sons of Prophet! With all excuses this is nothing I sent, I'll send more next time" Hassan and Hussein were the bodyguards of Muavia in the times of Fitna in 3rd Caliphate. Muavia sure is controversial figure . Indeed y'all hate him but it was test . Ali recognized it, he said to Hassan "Days and nights would past and then there would be a time when Muavia would accede the power, wish there was no blood spilled between us. indeed there's a test and God's will" . & When Roman king tried to take advantage in the times of Ali and Muavia dispute , he wrote a letter to Muavia and expressed that Muavia is more befitting to become a Caliph, I would like to send you thousands of cavalry who'd help you fight Ali. over it Muavia wrote a letter to him and said "Don't you dare attack Muslim lands, otherwise I'd unite with my brother Ali and trust me I'd like to send Your head to Ali as a gift with pleasure". Prophet said this my son Hassan would do a truce between 2 Muslim groups . And that's when Hassan gave away The Caliphate to Muavia . Where Muavia sent a blank note with his seal. Indeed we all know this cause of Rawayats , and we fight saying our rawis are better than yours or our Rawayahs are valid. But trust me , that was the time where You don't get media of information. I understand your anger but it's just one sided. God would judge us all. Cursing anyone in the past neither would change the past nor create any difference. In fact History proved that Ahlul Bait is the bestest of all and they passed all the tests and their sacrificed the most and today we are Muslims because of Them , because of Hassan and Hussein, how Hussein stood with thirst and His family stood by Him. That's the best example. That's where we need to learn something.those incidents those tests are the guidance for Muslims and non-Muslims till the end. So I don't think cursing anybody would bring any difference instead following what they did for Islam .

@@walliqureshi1770 you need to read history, imam hassan only abdicated his caliphate to muawyia only to prevent further bloodshed caused by muawyia, and it was on peace treaty and conditions as conditions included for muawyia to stop the cursing of imam ali in mosques to propagate hate towards him and his family, then another major condition was that muawyia won’t nominate his son after him since he violated the treaty imam Hussain had to do jihad against muawyia’s tyrant son as Muslims of that time sent letters to imam Hussain inviting him. Since muawyia was dead and the treaty was violated imam hussein’s step was justified. Then imam Ali didn’t nominate his son hassan people chose him since at that time he was better than everyone, he wasn’t nominated like yazeed. So how can you compare it with yazeed ? That’s like comparing abu sufyan with the prophet Muhammad. If Muslims were merely killed for not paying zakat then muawyia has done far worse crimes then them. We Muslims are still suffering because of his policies he started first civil war turned caliphate into monarchy and split islam into two shia sunni conflict only hypocrites would defend such a man. Since he’s a companion I’d rather leave it to God.

@@walliqureshi1770 there very good points you make and I would have to admit I have to agree on majority of your points- yes Muawiyah has done things that we would disagree but he is fallible and make mistakes/sins as we would too- but we have to give credit to how strategic and how analytical he was within the art of war. One could say he was one only for greed and power but isn’t that what being the caliph is, as it’s the responsibilities it automatically comes with. And as you mentioned the imam Ali was one of the best or if not the best commander of chief. And as we come to know about the battle of siffin- how close the battle was, and not just anyone could put up a war like that against imam Ali- hence why he mention, and as you quoted that that no one could kill Ali. One could say that they are rivals and would of been an honor to die to each of their swords as they both met their match. Your statement actually aids to how great the family of Muhammad is, the sacrifices hussan and Hussein did to save the ummah (which is often not spoken about) - as well how great of an warrior imam Ali is, as we seen in the battle of siffin.

@@raghmatullahtaliep4537 Hz Ameer Muaviah wasn't a "caliph" . He was the first king. And you know what kings do. There's a clear justification for why Muslims needed kings. Everyone was having their own Imams ,their own caliphs, that would have divided the ummah way more than what division they already had. Also all of what happened in the past is guidelines for Muslims . The Love-hate relationship between Hz Ameer Muaviah and Imam Ali is something we all need to look upon . The guy's brother/friend who martyred Imam Ali went to attack Hz Ameer Muaviah. And then when Roman king sent a letter to Muaviah saying that he'd support him against Imam Ali by sending him an army and bringing Muaviah the head of Imam Ali , Muaviah replied "if two brothers dispute then who are you to intervene ? If you didn't shut up I'll send you an army which would bring me your head and I'll gift it to Ali" That's something Muslims need to learn , chaos disputes between us must be resolved within by ourselves. Outsiders mustn't be invited.

Yeah he hailed Abdul Malik because Ibn Khaldun believed in Arab Supremacy not because he used Rashidun or Quran as a benchmark. His brutal success may be the same Kind of success which is given to the likes of Caligula or Henry the VIII. If you look the way Muawiyyah and onwards ruled they fell short of what Quran preached. Should have included Battle of Harrah which is not a controversial topic like Battle of Karbala. But overall fair assessment. (Like)

Mu'awiyah said to al-Miqdam: Do you know that al-Hasan ibn Ali has died? Al-Miqdam recited the Qur'anic verse "We belong to Allah and to Him we shall return." A man asked him: Do you think it a calamity? He replied: Why should I not consider it a calamity when it is a fact that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) used to take him on his lap, saying: This belongs to me and Husayn belongs to Ali? The man of Banu Asad said: (He was) a live coal which Allah has extinguished. Al-Miqdam said: Today I shall continue to make you angry and make you hear what you dislike. He then said: Mu'awiyah, if I speak the truth, declare me true, and if I tell a lie, declare me false. He said: Do so. He said: I adjure you by Allah, did you hear the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) forbidding use to wear gold? He replied: Yes. He said: I adjure you by Allah, do you know that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) prohibited the wearing of silk? He replied: Yes. He said: I adjure you by Allah, do you know that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) prohibited the wearing of the skins of beasts of prey and riding on them? He said: Yes. He said: I swear by Allah, I saw all this in your house, O Mu'awiyah. Mu'awiyah said: I know that I cannot be saved from you, O Miqdam. Khalid said: Mu'awiyah then ordered to give him what he did not order to give to his two companions, and gave a stipend of two hundred (dirhams) to his son. Al-Miqdam then divided it among his companions, and the man of Banu Asad did not give anything to anyone from the property he received. When Mu'awiyah was informed about it, he said: Al-Miqdam is a generous man; he has an open hand (for generosity). The man of Banu Asad withholds his things in a good manner.
