There's something really special about a U.P. deer camp. I was fortunate to be invited to one for 20 years. Great times with great people.

I was born and raised a yooper now living away from Michigan. I guess I’m called a transplanted yooper. I miss deer hunting in the UP, I have many good family memories of hunting as a kid. Nice to see family/friend memories being made. 4 years to go before I retire, can’t wait to get back hunting in the U.P. Great video!!!

Nice buck and nice to see three generations and friends at the camp. Reminds me of when I was a kid going to deer camp with my uncles and cousins. At night after the evening hunt friends would often show up for a beer or two and cards. I miss those days for sure but nice to see families still carrying on with the Michigan deer camp tradition.

Only differences between our camp in Rapid River, MI and yours is you bathe way more! And we have a strict no phone’s policy. We keep them in a lock box and we get three times a day to check them a day. Other than that it’s much of the same! Beautiful camp you got there.

So many parallels between your camp and the camp I hunted at in far northern Wisconsin for the first time this year. 4 guys at the camp and a traditional wood fired sauna to boot. Very nice harvest of the 8 pointer and a bonus to have filmed it as well. The old heavy horned swamp buck I shot the third day of season at noon snuck in from the left at 75 yards but only offered a quartering towards my stand shot. Placed a 30-06 bullet through the shoulder and he dropped like a ton of bricks and never moved. The camp attendees were similiar aged as yours except nobody was under 58. I guess years back it was common for the camp crew to head into town until the wee hours of night but that never happened this year as bedtime at 9:30 was the norm. Many blessings and a safe hunt is a good hunt. God Bless from Hodag Land.

Done right, all the day's of prep work thru the summer, and you can't think of anything that STILL needs to be done, the "day before season" is about as special as opening day. Our cabin south of Baraga County becomes heaven. We gear-up two days before, and spend this day doing NOTHING but eat, fellowship, and relax taking everything in. You feel so,... I guess the word is "settled"? Hard to explain, but I long for this day EVERY YEAR!

I really love the name of your channel! Even though I’m only 25% into this video. It reminds me of the great ole days where being in deer camp was the prize! Hope you get a deer too! I’m not saying hunting is not the focus, I’m saying friendship is the bullseye! Commonality is the cause, and taking the time to intentionally connect with your friends and family is the greatest subliminal connection we may ever have! 3 cheers for you and your co-hunters! I admire you for the effort you take to make this happen! I recently saw the video of you and your wife come up in the summer and do work to prepare for the upcoming season! I admire you for the extraordinary lengths that you go to to make this deer camp happen! One night, I hope to share a campfire with you! I've spent a little time in the woods in my sixty plus years. Some of those stays were in not so nice accommodations and some that were fairly nice. That's comparing those to the not so nice. Now a deer camp with a sauna, couch and a table with that unforgettable lamp. Now that's five star living there! I would make a trip out to the woods and stay there for weeks before going on a cruise in a heartbeat. Nice setup you've got there. Thanks for the hard work behind this video for all of us to enjoy. Nice camp. I had a friend from Michigan that passed a few years back, we met by chance and became best buddies. He had a passion for deer hunting like we do here in Texas, he hunted my property and leases for years, and he killed some really nice bucks, I would even pay for his nonresident license some years. I think about my old friend all the time, especially when it gets close to deer season. When we had a lease in the Texas hill country, he would say that he would see more deer in one morning’s hunt than he would in a couple of years hunting in Michigan. He lived on lake intermediate.

Just the sheer excitement ,and raised heart rate it happens every time. I could feel it watching the video and I wasn’t even there lol. I can’t wait till I get my hunting camp set up right and do a little white tail and possibly bear hunting up there in the UP. On a sidenote, I did order a Barnett XP 385 crossbow package with the crank cocking device from Cabelas on their Black Friday deal it was $299.97. It just got here today so I’m gonna put it together and see if I can get it sighted in. Again congratulations.

Nice video and nice buck. As a fellow michigander I love to go up hunting with my brother and my dad. Unfortunately this was the third year I didn't get to go due to medical issues that have hit pause on my life these past 3 hunt seasons . But lucky enough I ended my last time hunting on a good note and got a nice 8pt. Hopefully I will be able to go next year . I don't mind when I go if I don't get one I just enjoy the bonding time and just being able to sit out in nature in peace a quite and watch all the wildlife. When a nice buck walks out tho the adrenaline rush is amazing tho. So thanks for the video it made me feel like I was in the blind with my heart rate Goin up with excitement.

I own three properties, two are in antler restricted counties, we pass on some good deer, my grandkids grew up hunting antler restrictions, now they pass buck’s in non antler restrictions counties, that I would have been on cloud nine with.

It's not easy to find bigger bucks in the snow belt of Michigan's Upper Peninsula where I hunt. Some of the really bad years I wouldn't even get a picture on game cameras of a buck I could shoot, let alone see one hunting. Even the most skilled hunters (not me) with the best equipment can't make bucks appear that don't exist.

My last hunting lic. In NJ is 1974. Been going up to crotch lake, ont can since 1973 and currently my friend rich owns an island cabin on crotch lake. Will be 78 this coming feb, got a couple of years in rich. I go up with him in Aug or Sept for 8 or 9 days. Yes it's about an 8 1/2 hour ride from NJ and of course the subject of how long we can still come up is talked about. I'm a bypass guy and 2 years ago got a new left knee. Rich looks like he may be facing knee replacement shorty along with back problems. He is talking about that time to sell the island may be coming up. So yes each year marks another year older and man they go bye too fast. Your mentioning that Dave just reminds me about where has the time gone. Hopefully we have a few years left. Fish salt water here in NJ on my boat and have a few friends help me run the boat for the day. Trailer it from home to the ramp. Ok well wishing you and your family happy and healthy holidays and thanks for sharing your time up at the camp. I gave a feeling no weight was lost at deer camp this year. Take care ..... Walt

Congrats on a great U.P. buck! Our season over in western Marquette County was unusually slow this year. Hardly any deer were seen. Hopefully we have a better winter this year. 🤞🏻

Looks like you all had a great time at deer camp. Congrats on both bucks. My Grandpa had an Ashley stove in camp when I was a kid. It would roast you out if you got too carried away loading too much wood in it. Todd from da U.P.

Dave, You know I like deer camp vids and you put out a great one! I scanned the comments and no one mentioned. I think you showed that trail cam buck because that's the deer you harvested? Clever!! Loved the "cow", the food, the comradery and the good camp hygiene. Happy Holidays my friend and thanks for the video! Great buck!

Thanks Mark. Yes I believe that was the buck I shot. Never had a day time pic of it at that blind until I harvested it. It was a fun deer season.

My wife walked through the Living Room and asked who that guy was taking a shower. I said, “that’s Dave Knetter!” like she was supposed to know or something. She stared at me for a few seconds and continued on her way. To quote Thin Lizzy - if that chick don’t wanna know, forget her!

My hunts in jeopardy this year. Camp already set up, just my truck is dead. Atv and my gear all loaded up, I stripped out a spark plug hole. Hands are kinda numb these days, doubtful I'm pulling off a tap job myself. Would be first time on new 40, first private land hunt in 20 years, first ever hunt with my older half brother. Good luck this year fellas.

Thanks, got the chev back up and running. Enlisted my wife's dexterity, she got a new plug in! Saved the day for sure. 2023 is a go.
