I just picked up a used Cimarron 1866 carbine, in almost the exact same condition as that. Someone used it pretty hard in cowboy action shooting. And I think you touched on three Peckinpah film plots in this video. Great video as always...

I used a Cimarron 1866 rifle when competing in cowboy action shooting. It was chambered in .45 Colt to match a pair of Ruger Vaqueros.

I did not. It is chambered in .44 Henry Flat, a rimfire cartridge first used in the 1860 Henry rifle. One can identify empty cases fired in either the 1866 or the Henry because both used dual firing pins that left two indentations on the rim of the cartridge. Some rimfire cartridges today, mostly .22 caliber, are head stamped with a capital H in recognition of the inventor Tyler Henry.

@@NM-eb5ej Here's probably more than you want to know about the .44 Henry caliber. The Colt model of 1872, immediate predecessor of the Single Action Army/Peacemaker, was also chambered in .44 Henry. The Colt had a single firing pin so empty cartridges can be distinguished from those fired in a rifle. Cases showing both types of marks have been found at the Little Bighorn Battle site. There is no record of anyone in the Custer expedition with Winchesters, Henrys, or Colt M1872. So those firearms were used by the Native Americans.
