I've fished artificial for 50 years.... flies, plugs, worms, spinners, etc. Color? Irrelevant Type? Barely relevant Water depth? MOST important. Some fish are not coming out of deep water to hit a surface bait. Some are not going to the bottom for it either. If they aren't eating, you can throw the whole damn tackle box at them and catch nothing. If their hungry??? A piece of string with a hook will catch them. They won't care what color, size, shape, etc. If they think it's small enough to be eaten, they'll HIT IT. My friends win tournaments on ESPN. I don't care to compete. But I have seen, and personally done too, every trick in the book. The only people that disagree are people don't fish often or they are superstitious to the point of being BLIND to facts and patterns. When you come in from fishing.......99% of the time everyone caught fish or nobody did. The number one factor is "THE BITE". If the bite is on, it's ON. If not??? That's why it's call fishing and not catching. There's no way to tell if the bite is on except by getting out there. The fisherman that catches the most is the one that goes the most. If I had only one predictor? The barometer. If two? Next would be the moon. Full moon and no moon bad. Mid moons good. Sure I've pound them all night on a full moon But I've been skunked by full moons much much much more often.
