One of the best teachers I've ever seen in youtube . It's sad that I just knew about your channel. I like this channel. Rarely can one find a quiet lesson without the noisy background music or the unnecessary talks and jokes that prioritize giving fun over knowledge. Thanks for your efforts 🌹

I can't believe it is so clearly explained here. I also looking forward from you about three kind of clauses in english grammar because I can't use them well when it mixed together , especially in writing and reading skills. Thank you!

Once again, I've received a comment (via email) and it's not showing up here, so I can't answer it here. Mehrdad J. asks what I meant by subjective sentences. I didn't know what this was all about, so I just now re-watched my video. I can see some problems and I should probably redo this video. What I meant by "subjective" was actually "subjunctive". Sorry, people! I used the wrong word. If any of you want to communicate with me more directly, I have an email account that I use only for people who subscribe to my channel. Feel free to write to me with any questions if you want to be sure I get your question. alexseslworld@gmail.com

Thanks for the excellent explanation! I have one question. At 9:20, you mentioned that when the third person singular subject is needed for the subjunctive we use the past tense form 'went'. I thought that we need to use the base form in all cases including the third person singular subject. (I prefer that he speak to me directly) What am I missing?
@alexseslworld3 жыл бұрын
First, thanks for bringing this to my attention. I've gone back and watched and I apologize for not making this clearer. You're right, where I put that explanation about "were", I was explaining the first way we use the subjunctive and it should have been the base verb. (That is, Reporting or Giving Suggestions) I was thinking about the second way and the 3rd way 2.) Expressing a hypothetical and 3) Expressing a wish. In those cases, we use "were" for 3rd person. I'll see if I can make an adjustment to the video.

What kind of rabbit hole have we fallen into... search one simple term and it splits into this monstrous dichotomy of grammatical pathways. At this rate how do books ever get written?
@alexseslworld3 жыл бұрын
I'm sure many authors don't worry too much about grammar. I'm teaching people whose first language isn't English. University students are usually the ones who benefit most from this.
