Hello! I have been on a journey of learning and improvement over the past year. I have been diving deep into the world of Lean Six Sigma and various continuous improvement methodologies such as Hoshin Kanri, Toyota Kata, TPS (Toyota Production System), Kanban, Kaizen, and 5S. You're absolutely right that Six Sigma is just one part of a broader toolkit for problem-solving and continuous improvement. Your videos are really helping me to step into the field and be successful, Six Sigma problem solving process is just a small part of it.

Thank you for your insights at the end of the video and clarifying that 5s is a journey. I think that's something a lot of people don't get. They want to implement this perfect system immediately with everything taped off and clean as possible. But this leads to staff getting annoyed and frustrated and also tends to create additional waste and non value adding work, which is not lean. As they say, if it's not broken, don't fix it.

Thank you. I feel like that’s a common thing to do…especially if the person implementing 5S is new to 5S…at least it was like that for me. Maybe I should make a video specifically in that topic…how to implement 5S over a year…without creating pushback and enemies. 😂…thanks again.

Great video as usual! This is a great refresher, as 5S events are considered a focus for the company i work for. Do you think you could talk about Kamishibai Boards on your next video? Or any recommendations on how to implement one? Thanks a bunch! You've been a lifesaver. Also, the PQPR analysis you recommended came in clutch. Thanks so much!

Awesome! Glad it helped and I’ll add Kamishibai to the video line-up. Been busy with some projects at work but wrapping up a complete Root Cause Analysis revamp this week so should be back on the videos next week! Thanks for all the support.

Chad, when you are talking about the audit portion what type of audit sheet did you typically use? Ive seen it done as a scale of 0-5, points based, and maybe % based? You mentioned percentages in your video here. Im the champion of our 5s program and the audits (along with w visual management tool) are my biggest challenge. Thanks!
@learnkaizenКүн бұрын
I’ve used both percentages and a point scale. The important thing to remember is educating the team. We don’t want to grade them into the ground, we want to encourage positive behaviors and grading of any kind does the opposite in my experience. Even if they maintain 5S - it’s because they fear a bad score and instilling fear doesn’t ensure they understand the ‘WHY’ 5S is important and works against a lean culture. Here’s what I’ve done that works well- pick a small area with a team that is semi-bought into 5S…teach them why it’s important and then work with the team to 5S an area they work in everyday. Get dirty if you need to but show them you’re invested in their 5S because it’s that important. Bringing the team along this way makes them part of the solution - which gets buy-in, and creates a sense of pride to keep it that way. At the end, ask if this is the way they want it…then take a picture of the newly 5S’d area and post it to the area. The grading is binary- either a smiley face or frown face for quick reference…use red and green as well. Here’s how to grade the area: if no one is working in the area, the area should look like the picture. If it doesn’t, it’s red…if it does, it’s green. That’s it! It’s simple and works wonders. Let me know how it goes!

I'm all in favor of 5Sing communal work spaces, but compelling someone to 5S their own desk feels like an overreach by the company.
@learnkaizen Жыл бұрын
Agreed, but I have to take full responsibility for this one. I was young and full of misdirected energy.
@BeekersSqueakers Жыл бұрын
@@learnkaizen That's understandable. In my mind I was imagining it as being directed by upper management, which felt more invasive. I do appreciate that you allowed them to set their own standard rather than try to impose a one. I've always struggled with workspace organization, so that flexibility would have been very helpful to me.
