Agreed I stopped buying individual drinks of soda and water. I do keep a few cases of each hidden and out of reach in the basement if we need for an impromptu event and for emergency water storage. Saves $ and cleanup!

How about the girls take over the bagging-up and removal of empty beverage cans and bottles in the basement? Assign each daughter every 3 days, and post it on a calendar or just make out a 30 day sheet.

The cans would drive me mad. All that double/triple handling, the mess and stairs! A rubbish can outside the backdoor? Is it possible? Squash them? We don't do any drinks like that so the amount is shocking to me.

I am so inspired to see your show (it’s been 3 weeks since I found it and I can’t say enough how much I love it) and how much you do to make your house a home… I am preparing myself to do stuff once I am released to do housework or any else because within 5 months I had 2 completed low back surgeries and I am getting pumped and hopeful that I can do it with the way you say to do what you can and when your body tells you to rest then do so!!! I enjoy your quick picks on how you prepare meals and how your hubby is so hopeful any time you need him!! God Bless you and your family and be healthy!!

I was so excited for a basement decluttering video and then my heart sank to see the mess of cans and bottles that you were left to clean up. There has to be a better way that doesn't promote treating your home like a dump and undoubtedly getting sticky spills all over the place. Could a bag hang off the back of the basement door?

Hello Karen, would it help to have the recycling trash can upstairs next to the trash can so you don't have to clean up the cans off the floor or lug them back up the stairs. Love your videos.

Less cans and small bottles? Better for wallet, envorinment, healt and less work. So 4 x better! Drink water, tea and diluted sirup (do not know if thats availeble in the us.) 4xbetter!

Maybe you could put the green soda can bags in a container with a lid and set it outside near the door you go out that way you wouldn’t have to fill the bags or lug the bags up from the basement. I posted before I read the comments. It seems we all think the soda can collection could be more efficient.

I purchased a wire mesh cart with four drawers that will fit nicely in my vanity closet. It has a surface to rest my make up, mirror on. First step to my mini vanity area. Good basement reclamation! Tell the girls it is good for them and builds calf muscles to use the steps and place cans in designated receptacle! My son would throw laundry at the laundry basket and would land of floor near it.

Love the basement videos especially! I needed a break...just got done with pulling a bunch of knapweed again and doing some raking...I think, although I don't actually know, that it's probably the girls drinking all that soda...I would put a stop to them just throwing the cans and bottles down the stairs. It is unfair to you, you clean it up, you drag the bags up the stairs. They are grown up, They can understand the work it places on you. Can you assign them to clean that up once or twice a week? Can you tell them you will quit buying them soda? It would be easier on the budget to not buy it? I know sounds harsh, but, as I sit here tired, it seems to me it doesn't have to be that way. I hope I haven't irritated you too much!

We can't crush cans in maine. Each kind of soda is picked up by specific distributor. We can't even take the water bottle labels off or if it falls off redemptIon center can't count it. Crazy huh?

You can’t crash them up here in New England because they have to read the barcode in the machine to get your deposit money back

I haven't seen or experienced one of those bottle counting machines in person. I have only seen them on KZbin. I have only gone to a redemptIon center and a live human being counted our bottles. 😅

I have a tall trash can lined with a trash bag just for bottles and cans. When the bag is full I put the bottles in the car for the next errand trip. It would skip the down the stairs bottle storage. I'm thinking with all the trips for the Girl's work rides there should be a store that accepts bottles and cans on that route.

I'd get a large covered trash can for recycling. Place it outside. Recycling seems to be a re-occurring issue for a while.

Well my friend your cellar reminds me of what I used to do so much. I resolved it and you have a perfect setup... I purchased 6 pack of large soccer bags from Amazon and a couple 9" needle point hoops. I put the hoop at the top so the bag "stays open" for kids/husband to deposit the redemptIon bottles. You could hang the hoop from the otherside of stairs. When full pull the string closed. Replace with new soccer bag. FYI 4 full bags is almost $20 of bottle returnable money. Saves money on trash bags. And they are washable if soda cans aren't totally empty.😊

Living in the south, there's no way those cans would be allowed to build up in our basement. Talk about a field day for insects! Roaches, especially! Similar to dirty dishes left for days in tge kitchen. Lots of good ideas here to take care of them. Im for outside of the house, a covered can, and recycled immediately when full. Sanitary situation, for sure.

Great progress! It seems when I am working on redoing I make a mess before it finally gets better..lol. It is all coming together for you! It will be getting cooler soon & maybe you will have more time to craft with not doing gardening. Maybe put the pinecones in a tub...might be easier to transport. I love doing a little bit of creative things along. Putting it in your routine is a great idea. You got rid of more things...awesome! ❤😊

Lots of good suggestions on the recycling… we abandoned a lidded garbage can for recycling. I bought a laundry bin the same size as the recycling bag, we line it with a bag, and just toss inside. It sits at the top of our basement stairs because we have a little area we can stash it - but at least of yours stays at the bottom of the stairs, there’s a chance of the toss going in it! Agree on the road trip… to return other’s items. Hang in there.

You ABSOLUTELY got a ton done! I enjoy junk journaling/working on altered books and I bought myself a rolling scrapbook bag. It serves as a home to my supplies and it limits the amount I can keep. And, the wheels make it easy to roll into the corner or to the table when I'm ready to work. My frugal self balked at spending the money, but it has been a great help to me.

Glad you are taking a little time to keep the basement area straightened up, as it took such a lot of effort to clean out, it would be a shame for it to get messy again. Put all your craft stuff in that long plastic box and store it that way. If you decide to declutter your big dining room, table then why not declutter the blue chair and that big empty filing cabinet at the same time, you emptied it and don’t use it; so why keep it.

Karen I know how you feel I been doing some rearranging remembering I have been going through all the old clutter in the basement now my husband wants to bring up his hobby in to living room he think it is valuable and can sale it ( I do not think so ) because he wants to clean the items and store it in the living room we have no other options the basement air quality is bad down there to keep things nice do you see my dilemma Dana K White said to donate it not sale it ( I think we maybe getting closer getting it out the door because he is addressing it now ) I ‘ll keep in touch let you know the out come 😵🙏🏻🙌🏻😩
