That sense of loneliness is spot on. My mother had just recently died and I decided to play a video game to try and pull myself up. I picked this, played for a little, and then the "safely ashore" song started. I just kinda stopped my character and listened for a moment and I felt so damn sad and alone. I looked at my husband and said, "this music makes me so sad. I don't know why." Beautiful soundtrack. I love safely ashore, but it definitely really makes you feel alone.

If you want another Rogue-Like that isn't Isaac... I recommend Enter the Gungeon... Be warned, it's not the easiest even after time is loaded into its chambers.

An very good review on a very interesting-sounding game. I might just take a listen to that soundtrack, being that I don't have as much of a burning hatred for country as the next guy!

There is a major issue with this, it is a rouge like where you NEED to kept multiple draining bars up, and if it is randomly generated... that tends to make things luck based. If there is 9 items needed to do X... you need to find all 9, not 1-8 and 8 again. The more complexity you add to this genre the less it feels like skill and more it becomes luck based. (Not enough damage means you run out of bars and suffer a forced death because the game didn't give you damage) It has another issue though, which is telling a story with vocal music. This is good when you can focus on it and relax... but there is a reason most games don't have it for gameplay segments, it is a distraction and it makes songs more repetitive while drawing attention to the genre... which makes it easier to dislike. Its biggest faults can come from its strengths... which is something to be wary of going into it if these things bother you. That being said it is totally worth checking out if these things don't bother you and you enjoy rouge like games. If these things do bother you... it is a rouge like which in turn means going through what you dislike over and over.
