It seems other than the piano, everything else was run through the reverb chamber or tremolo was used, the Vibraphone can heard in tremolo as it is common for that instrument! Makes me seem as though I am floating, I grew up hearing music in our house!! My Mom used our big console stereo to teach me to dance close with the Theme From a Summer Place on repeat it was loud enough we thought we were dancing in front of the band and singers!! An amazing love ballad that is still relevant today!!

I am the youngest of 5 and little sister of 3 older brothers..2 of whom were young teenagers when this came out.. I remember when they use to bring their dates to our house and dance to this in the living room, talk about little sister song by Elvis haha..we young kids use to peek around the corner at them as they danced to this song and others like it, Sixteen Candles, Great Pretender so on..45's spinning away as they enjoyed themselves..it was such a joyous, carefree time in my life and I thank my older siblings for introducing me to music like this as a young kid..my brother's also served our country..one, a two tour in Vietnam decorated Marine, and the other a also decorated Army Sargent..all my brothers are gone now, way too soon, 😞 but what sustains me is coming here and as I close my eyes to listen, I am magically transformed back in time, of innocents and oh such fantastic music like this! So rest in beautiful glorious heavenly peace 🕊️ 🕊️ my brothers mine, for we shall meet again, all in God's time..🙏❤️❤️🙏

We’re not missing out though. We’re right here watching this video on KZbin along with everybody else. The cool thing about this day in time is that we can actually enjoy music from today through the last 100 years, without having to own 200 different albums to do so. We can literally type in a song we may want to hear from say, 1959, and BOOM - here we are! The digital age has made it possible that a millennial like me can listen to and enjoy this music right here in 2020. So no, I don’t feel like I’m “missing out” at all. 😁
@jarchhhh
@jarchhhh 4 жыл бұрын
@@LeimertDreamer Agreed on one level...access to musical archives allow us to "experience" other times and places. But, the digital age only allows us to experience a facsimile of the original time, place and feeling. The social context is missing entirely. A person living in the 40's through Tommy Dorsey, the 60's through the Beatles...the 70's through glam rock, the 90's through Grunge, etc, etc experienced those moments in a very different context than simply dialing up KZbin. When I saw my father get dreamy eyed listening to the music of his day, I knew he was back in that moment...a moment I could never, ever feel.
@LeimertDreamer
@LeimertDreamer 4 жыл бұрын
@@jarchhhh Very good points, and valid ones. I’m sure your grandpa has/had wonderful memories from his day. 🙂 The only thing I will add is that those of us who enjoy this older music don’t necessarily wish to have experienced the time it was produced. I, as a relatively successful Black man, would probably not want to live in the 1950s, as opportunities for me now are much greater than then. Plus, I have my own set of songs from my “younger” years (granted, I’m only in my early 30s) that give my eyes a twinkle or two :-). Which brings me back to the original point, which is that we’re so blessed to be able to enjoy music from many different times and eras. Also, I can’t promise that I don’t apply some of these love songs to situations in my own life now lol! 😆 So, in that regard, these songs not only can be enjoyed by younger generations but can be applicable too!

@@stormwolf1026 Incorrect. Gallant is just one more in a long line of four note, 2 octave, autotune wannabes. The fact is, in the late 50's to late 60's , doo wop, and motown were a period of TALENT. Not autotune or studio filtered enhancing. Absolute, full range, 4 octave talent. Owned by the amazing voices of sincere AA men, some women, that sang of love, hope, majesty and dedication. Not abuse, disrespect, hatred and violence.

Viking Helseth if i’m being honest here, you seem blind to the fact there will always be music that’s hateful no matter what era. and you don’t like 21st century music because of the audio quality? lol, i like this song but if i’m honest you just come off as some old person stuck in an era that’s over, there is still likeable music in this generation, your just not listening to the right music.

@@stormwolf1026 Except...I played successfully in 4 bands over 30 years, and my "opinion" is echoed by four well-documented polls taken by Rolling Stone, Billboard 100, AMA, and the R&R hall-of-fame......all concluded that, indeed, true voice quality music and voice no longer exists in music today, and, sadly, is only becoming more electronically altered. The statement given, was correct. This music no longer exists. Get over yourself. Your obvious immaturity is the only thing witnessed here. I NEVER said I hate any music.

This song reminds me of my mother each time I here it played. February 27, 2014 she went to be with the Lord snd it still seems like she just left us. I don't think I'll ever be complete without her love to give me support.

My mother passed the year after yours and I am sorry for your loss. As long as you have the memories of your mother as I do, you still have her love and support. When you get to a crossroad, think about what she would say and follow that leading. That is her love and support. With prayer and supplication, the pain of my mom’s loss has eased. Ironically the year this song was recorded by the Flamingos is the year my parents got married, 1959.

This is one of the greatest songs of all time. Many might have made it before but very few groups could deliver it with such smooth, easy, romantically trance-like vocalized harmony. Thanks for posting!

I agree, but they had a lot of beautiful ballad's, in their discography, and so did a lot of the other groups of the era, but the thing that differentiate, the Flamingos, from other groups, was the echo chamber effect, to their sound... Check it out...
