I really wanted that opening Snowbarrisco laser tag scene to last longer. I miss the moments of the nerdy trio. Yeah, I noticed Caitlin seemed to give a shit about Wally more than Iris in this episode, but then Iris just isn't truly a naturally warm person and doesn't have chemistry with anyone, save Joe. All she gives a shit about is her damn wedding. It's why I never believe in this Iris as a loving, caring person because it never resonates onscreen in any genuine way. It's all a smoke screen by the writers. Caitlin has always felt like a genuinely sweet person. Never feels forced or fake, like with Iris. And Iris is really terrible at humor. She has her moments, but overall I don't think she can keep up with the new slapstick comic tone of the show. She sounds weird when quoting funny lines. The other characters have been pulling off the comic elements of the show since the Pilot, but Iris has never been that type of character, so it just doesn't fit her. Of course, her melodramatic nature drags the show down, too, which means she doesn't fit anywhere on this series. Harry, Cisco, Caitlin and Barry shows how it's done, perfectly balancing the comic lines whilst sounding believably smart when talking the scientific lingo, but they've been doing it since the beginning. Get Iris out of the lab, Flash writers! lol

I was so happy with the opening scene! It took 3 episodes (plus a chunk of last season) but finally a Cisco/Barry/Caitlin scene where they're actually having fun together! I noticed it too when Harry was telling Wally what Jesse's message said Caitlin, Barry and Cisco all reacted to it, and Iris was just standing there like a statue. That would have been a time where you would actually *expect* one of Iris' 'everything will be ok' pep-talks she usually reserves for Barry, but we never see her actually talk to or comfort her brother. I mean she just focused on her and Barry the entire episode and this is supposed to be her little brother. Just another case of Wally being pushed to the side in favour of more WestAllen scenes. And how she acted at the church...wow. Just, wow. Why did it take both Joe and Iris to run facial recognition, it more or less just does what it's programmed to do, why do two people need to watch it? Though it got her out of the lab so the original team Flash (more or less) could get their science on, which was a wonderful change for Barry since he has been more or less a bystander recently while Caitlin and Cisco figure it all out. I had this terrible feeling that at the end of the episode Barry would offer to buy the West's house off Joe to live in with Iris and start their new life together and was so happy when Cecile dropped the baby bombshell. They will have the cutest baby...if it isn't used by the villain in some horrible way. I have this odd feeling that this might spark a discussion between Westallen where one of them wants kids and the other doesn't. They seem to be focusing on the wedding itself, and not on the marriage is what I mean.

You know, I get the funeral/wedding scene because the show is going for a more comic tone of the show in Season 4. I think they are overdoing it, but it is what it is. HERE is the problem, though: So, in 4x02 Iris was her usual melodramatic self bitching about Barry abandoning her to go into the Speedforce, yet all of a sudden just like that, she's over that melodrama. Why? Because by the end of the episode, the writers came up with that contrived lightning bolt solution to essentially validate Iris' completely baseless accusation that Barry deserted her when she KNOWS there were extenuating circumstances. Basically, they are saying that Iris is right and Barry should always listen to her based on a totally WRONG accusation by her. So as long as Iris gets her way, everything is OK. Barry caves to her, Joe caves to her, Wally caves to her, and no one else even gets a say because it's all about Iris. So in 4x03 Iris is all giggles, so why even bring up this abandonment crap to begin with? It was such a stupid plot point, BUT the writers wrote it, Iris said it and this is the problem with her character: she says stupid, baseless stuff all the time that makes her character seem insensitive, selfish, and mean. And scenes like with Jesse breaking up with Wally where Wally's own SISTER is just standing in the background like an idiot don't help Iris' case either. And then there's all these closeups of Iris at the monitors trying to make her look smart and useful. She's just a prop on this show. No real character whatsoever.

Uh, Iris is Wally’s SISTER, the freakin closest person, or supposedly closest person, to Wally in the damn room. Why in the hell should Caitlin, Cisco, and Barry give a shit MORE than Iris? And CAITLIN is the one who, while standing there like everyone else, was also SCOLDING Harry for his insensitivity towards Wally. Why in the hell is Caitlin, not even related to Wally, the one (metaphorically) standing up for him while TEAM LEADER IRIS WEST and his own damn SISTER, just standing in the background all DUH and shit. If there’s one time that Iris should actual kick into melodramatic family support pep talk mode, it’s now, but all she gives a shit about is her damn wedding. And at least you could see them reacting to what Harry was saying, while Iris was in the same pose with the same facial expression the entire time. For example when Harry said "because you were her *cough* first..." Cisco, Caitlin and Barry were all 'oh shit' and Iris could have been a cardboard cutout in the scene for all the reaction she gave, even when hearing about her little BROTHERS sex life and being dumped. And when he walks off dejected and the camera focuses on the rest of them so she actually moves, does she follow him like she would have done if it was Barry in different circumstances? She gets an alert, Barry runs off and...nothing. I would have liked a scene between the 2 West siblings because it would have: 1) be a scene with Wally who has been woefully misused the last season or so. 2)be a scene with Iris focusing on someone elses problems which we get very few of since her scenes are mainly as her as 'the boss' and being Barry's fiance. Except her and Joe's scene is episode 1 which was one of her better ones this season so far even if it was her giving up on Barry being alive when there was no reason to think he was (there would have been a big ass storm if he died in the speedforce)

Yeah, come on, Wally is her brother and Iris doesn’t even give a damn about his woes the entire episode, only her wedding plans. Wally walks off dejected, rejected, and depressed, and she gets a call about her wedding plans and runs off happy? I mean, I knew Iris only seemed to interact with Barry and Joe, but this was an opportunity for her to put those pep talk skills to work and talk to her brother and she failed miserably. The writing for her character just screams she’s a selfish person. Then at the end of the episode, one of those Iris platitudes where she hugs Wally like she gives a damn about anyone other than herself. CAITLIN seemed more genuinely sad for Wally than his own sister? The writers have the wrong female as the lead of this series.

I seriously don’t comment on KZbin, or anywhere really, but just need to finally say what I think about this Iris character once and for all. Appreciate your views and share some of your humor-so, thanks! 😆 Your vid on 4x02 (and obviously all from S1-4) has good insights as to why Iris, as she is written, isn’t a good match for Barry (and it might’ve been how the character is directed too-I’ve a feeling it’s not just the writers, but maybe the directors have a certain vision, which sometimes they add or opt out certain lines). And now with this episode, my respect for the main character, Barry, is dwindling more and more, together with Iris. Especially after S3. Somehow, when Barry’s with Iris, he’s not as good a character as he is with Caitlin and the others. Not saying that they haven’t had some tender moments, if we must look from S1 to today, but it’s just hard to be loyal to Iris as a character with the way they’ve written her. Barry seems to be selfish when it comes to Iris; in S1, it wasn’t cool how he was trying to seduce Iris as the Flash, basically coveting another man’s girl and acting on it. Towards the end, Eddie was the bigger man, he gave Iris a choice to choose him or Barry after she discovered Barry was the Flash. In S3, whelp we know how much of a prick Barry became just to save Iris, and all these jokes about the deaths just ain’t helping, man! 😫 Before I’m a fan of Caitlin, or Cisco, or Joe, or anybody else, I’m first a fan of the hero, Barry Allen ⚡. I care about his journey. I care about his story. I care about the man and his development to be a hero. All the secondary characters, other “leads”, and pretty much all the relationships that Barry has with the rest of the characters, should really be connected to and support his development, not bring down his character; how they make him better just as he too makes them better. I mean, isn’t the show called “The Flash”? And whether Iris is also The Flash 😑, Iris has come off to be obnoxiously controlling and Barry just lets her. *What does that tell you about Barry then?* 😬 Caitlin on the other hand… Perhaps it’s an accident how much connection Barry and Caitlin have with each other, perhaps not. Or perhaps, it’s a combination of both, how the writers have written them a certain way but they also _didn’t see _*_it_*_ coming._ Obviously, Grant and Danielle's close connection and friendship really come through. But these writers, whether intentionally or not, have really created some pretty mind blowing connection between the two, hence the parallels that we’ve seen in these vids. Caitlin as a character, though flawed (she can be doubtful, but she doesn't remain there; she always supports Barry in the end) and has had her selfish moment (when she kept the Philosopher stone, but that was motivated by not wanting to turn evil and hurting everybody), Caitlin has been shown as this selfless person who puts others before herself. For example, Caitlin also lost her fiancé, then lost him again when he _just_ became her husband. She lost Ronnie TWICE. The first time she lost him, she found him but it wasn’t really Ronnie she found. It was someone else. She _struggled._ Just like how Iris found Barry all whacked, Ronnie was no longer Ronnie, literally, when Caitlin found him. She was so heartbroken, that in a moment of weakness, she thought she’d rather have him died in the explosion instead. But how it was portrayed in the scene didn’t come off as selfish or self-centered. It was because Ronnie wasn’t the same man-the vibrant, intelligent, accomplished man, full of life, that she knew. She didn’t want him to end up in prison locked up like “all the other metahuman psychos”. You could feel the shame that Caitlin was feeling for even _thinking_ that Ronnie should’ve just died that day. Iris on the other hand, man it was all about her, of how SHE doesn’t know what to do “if it was all that was left of Barry”. I mean, just look at this wedding. Team Flash is trying to stop a metahuman from wrecking people’s lives and she was busy trying to make a wedding happen after a funeral. Man, that tells me this might actually be a big foreshadowing to their relationship towards the end, as to being the endgame couple 😳 (we know that in the crossover, their wedding would also get busted before they truly get married-even in this episode Barry said it was _"a nice funeral"..._ ). Just a thought... Now back to Barry. Barry has a calling to be a hero ⚡. He was chosen. Therefore, not anybody can be his wife. Almost similar to Army wives in real life. You have to understand that your husband may never come back when he gets deployed. He has a calling to protect the nation, therefore protect his family. And a wife needs to let go. This doesn't mean that you put your job above your family, but it's to understand that a hero's calling is different and it asks for a greater grace given to them to do what they do. They have great responsibility that others do not have to carry. Caitlin had learned to let go (I guess after having to let Barry go and risk his life over and over again) and she let Ronnie go when he left with Stein to Pittsburgh, cause she finally understood that he was now a different man (which she also believes the same for Barry-she believed that that lightning chose him). His purpose in life has "changed" now. It became bigger-“with great power comes great responsibility”. But the next time she let Ronnie go? He never came back. *_And she blamed herself…_* But Iris? Though she had some valid points in the therapy, she still blamed Barry. Did she acknowledge what Barry did throughout Season 3 at the expense of his character? (Also, Grant said Barry in Season 3 was more like a Villain, rather than a Hero, in an interview). He basically fulfilled Killer Frost’s statement, “everything else be damned” just to save Iris. Shucks, we even got a scene of a future with the city in shambles because Barry lost Iris and *never recovered his dignity as a man, therefore a hero.* Though in the end it didn’t happen, but there remains the possibility of how Barry could end up if he stays with Iris, and then lose her. Before any other characters came on any scene, we first saw Barry Allen in Arrow S2. That’s when most of us first “fell in love” with Barry. We truly liked him. Then we saw his goofy future best friends towards the end of Arrow S2. We kinda had an idea that the Flash will be different than Arrow. Lighter, funnier, less drama (for real, sometimes Oliver can be such a drama king). The Flash S1 delivered-kudos to the writers and directors. But boy… today many people called S3 a soap opera rather than the superhero action flick it was. Ollie was looking less and less like the drama king. That crown seemed more fitting for Barry, then. I truly feel bad for Candice Patton. She isn't a bad actress. There are moments that I can see she's talented, and she's young, so she'll only get better. I wonder if she too feels frustrated about the writing of Iris West. I hope all these immature comments about the characters and the attacks against the actors and actresses do not discourage them. Artists tend to be sensitive. That actually helps them be good artists. But on the other hand, what we say about them can have great impact because of that sensitivity. Us viewers need to be able to observe, analyze, and convey what we think about the story, its characters and their traits with maturity. Aight. That was long. But I finally said it! 😁😭😆😎✌️ Now on a different thought, remember how on 4x01 Barry said on his crazy rant, *“We’re gonna need more diapers,"* and many thought the Tornado Twins, which were Barry's and Iris’ kids, might actually be coming… but perhaps that might not be the case at all. Because now we know for sure that a baby IS coming, and it isn’t Barry's and Iris’. It’s Joe’s and Cecile’s. You see, I’d rather Barry not marry Iris if they only end up divorced. *Marriage is a sacred thing.* It’s not to be taken lightly. And if they actually end up having kids, _then getting divorced…_ Oh man, that’s so hurtful. I hope the writers don’t go that route. At least for now we know that the baby they were hinting at on 4x01 might not actually be Barry’s.

Also, appreciate that you don't just write off the Iris character as "stupid" or you know what, etc. I actually see potential in her character but the way they've written her now, she's better off as Barry's sister-but-not-really-so-sister-friend-then?? 😑 that he grew up with. I get what they're trying to do. In SOME eastern cultures, people marry their friends that they've grown up with "as family" as arranged by their parents because of how loyal and close the two families are. And in that culture, it's not weird. With how the writers have written WA, though, it doesn't translate as much. Especially in the western-minded world that we have. Is it just me? I've noticed the writers have stopped trying to separate Barry and Caitlin since ep. 4x01. The perfect match clothes and them sitting/standing closely literally scream for Snowbarry 😆 Meanwhile with Iris, I feel like they were trying to make her character more dislikeable. I know WA are getting married. But, I hope the superstition that 'it's bad luck for the groom to see the bride in her wedding dress before the ceremony' comes true. Besides Barry is a superhero and there's no holiday for supervillains. I'm sure the wedding will be a chaos. The question is will the villains come before or after they are officially married? Well, even if they become husband and wife, there's still a chance for separation. If that happens, won't it make Barry and Caitlin even? #SnowbarryHope

It looks like to me that the writers are playing a safe card in this season by trying to please all the fans. The humor sense from season 1 is back, Barry is finally the fastest man alive, Iris being useful, Snowbarrisco's bond is getting solid, and the girls are becoming more like friends. What I'm afraid of is they are trying to show us that WA can keep going while Caitlin's still on the picture. Snowbarry still have their platonic relationship so that everybody will be satisfied. I hope that's not the case. I hope they do it because they are trying to be opened to explore something new (SB) and will give them a chance after they realize that majority of fans would like Barry not to end up with Iris. I said this because I read a lot of comments saying they prefer Barry with Caitlin or Patty or anyone as long as it's not her. Some people even said that Barry would better be single because they want to see more action since the show is starting to become another Felicity's show.
