And like others have said, Nora is impulsive and headstrong. If her behavior is any indication, she's just as inexperienced before she came to see her father. At least in her time, she had other heroes to follow their lead, but she's nearly gotten herself killed several times with Flash. It might even be that Cisco made the device so Nora could learn to be human before superhuman and wait for Barry to get back to train her.

This is a tricky dynamic for a couple of reasons: First, Nora is angry at Iris now for something Iris hasn't actually done yet because she hasn't become a mother yet. Second, we don't know why Iris will act that way in the future (all speculation aside). Iris can't defend herself because she doesn't know why she will do what she did in Nora's timeline. I understand why Nora feels the way she does, but given what we know about Iris, and how quickly she has warmed to the idea of being a mother now, it is very likely the only reason Iris will block Nora's powers would be to protect her. One way or another, I think everyone will come to that conclusion even if they disagree with it.

I kinda agree with Iris on this point. Being a speedster is complicated and dangerous. Barry right off the bat when he becomes speedster is dealing with consequences from choices he hasn't even made yet due to time travel. He has to deal with a speedster who kills other speedsters and future evil time remnants. Barry was an adult when he faced all of this and even then, in the end he vanishes and never returns home. Had Nora's power's manifested at a young age, she would not have been ready to deal with them and the consequences and responsibilities that come with them. More than that, Iris saw what happened to her husband and possibly the greatest speedster in the multiverse just because he was a speedster and a hero. Had Barry been around in the future to train Nora, then possibly there would be no need for power dampening, but the way Nora acts even now shows she's not nearly responsible or careful as she should be, even with Barry there to guide her.

Barry also has a very strong support system and still makes stupid decisions. Iris may have been not only worrying about how to parent a speedster, something not even Joe had to do as Barry didn't have those powers yet, but also not having the infrastructure to protect Nora. If your super hero husband disappears, the Legends and others can't catch a killer, what would you feel like as a single mom who is a reporter with no super powers knowing your daughter will be a target her entire life? Her decision, depending on how the story is fleshed out, doesn't seem like a dumb or selfish reason, more like a scared but smart woman doing what she feels like she has to do to protect her child.

They should've delve deeper into Nora's feelings. She is obviously deeply hurt. No one is that hurt for no reason. So either Iris did things way wrong, and handled whatever happened in the future very badly or Nora is being manipulated to think the worse of her mom. In either case, Barry and Iris should not have told Nora it was OK to suppress her powers without knowing the facts, and just assume Iris can do no wrong. Iris could change and make poor decisions (even with the best intentions). The Iris of today will not be the same Iris of 25 years from now, so they should've talked it over with Nora and not just assume they are on the right always.

You know, since people are speaking on Nora's immaturity and defending Iris, it just makes me think: "If Nora is an adult and is making rash, immature decisions at that age then Iris must've been bad at raising her." I can understand why Iris would implant that chip in Nora but still keeping it from her when she's an adult is wrong. Also the future where Meta's are hunted can't be Nora's future for the sole reason that the League exists and so does the Flash Museum. That makes no sense at all. I understand exactly why Iris said what she said. I understand why Barry stood next to her. That doesn't somehow make Nora's angry invalid or stupid...in fact, she's entirely justified at being anger over _having something implanted in her to cripple her_. And I find this entire idea she's yelling at the 'wrong Iris' moronic, because she probably _yelled at the correct one_ before coming back here, and then, onscreen, in front of everyone, spent a lot of time _really trying_ not to yell at this one. Trying to be polite, even trying to be loving. It's just when Iris not only forced the issue, but then tried to _justify_ her future behavior (Despite having literally no information about it), that Nora got angry.

Just a thought or theory..... Maybe Nora ran off from her mom to the past, immediately after discovering she had powers and confronting her mum and they had an argument in which she didn't let her mum explain the whole reason as to why she did that and she's still sore from the argument she had with her mum, hence the hate. Iris was just trying to protect her daughter from the same kind of life that took the love of her life away from her, but at the same time, you took a crucial part of her identity, the part that came from her father, away from her. Okay so now I get it. Iris took her choice away cause she didn't want to see the same fate as into losing Barry and he never came back. So she did what parent or Mother would is go to any length to protect her family and the ppl she loves! She couldn't bare losing her daughter too and even though it was wrong to do, she was making sure that history doesn't repeat it self and she end up losing Nora too! Jay retired last season in episode 4x15 and he's not even from their earth. Neither is Jesse. Nora mentioned the engineer of Barry's future suit and it wasn't Cisco so there's a chance he's gone too. Wally has been MIA for almost 2 years now and there's no indication he ever comes back Central city. And Joe's a frail old man of he's even still alive. Seems like it's just Iris alone with (possibly) two kids trying to survive a very dangerous world

I like this argument because both sides have a point. But I am on the side of Nora overall. Its not even that Iris suppressed Nora's powers, but the fact that she didn't tell her for over 20 years. Nora is an adult now and she only found out 6 months ago and not even from Iris. That is an incredibly personal violation even from a parent. If the reasoning given is that Iris is afraid to lose Nora after having lost Barry, then that only makes her immediate action understandable, not the secret hiding part. If it turns out to be something else, like Nora's powers being harmful to her or that metas are persecuted in the future, then I think Iris' point will be in better standing.

Of course, I can see both sides of the argument. However, Nora is acting like an immature little brat. Sorry not sorry. Sure, Future Iris probably should have told her about her powers once she became an adult. I can understand why Nora feels betrayed, but there is more to it than just Nora's feelings here. Before Nora came of age, I wholeheartedly believe Iris did the right thing to dampen her powers. A lot of people in the comments here are bypassing one tiny little detail - we don't know if Wally is around in the future. We don't know where he is or if he even comes back, so there goes the only other speedster who could have helped her learn how to control her powers. So, who would have been around to even help Nora with her powers had she found about before she became an adult? Some people really think a 16-year-old would have been emotionally stable enough to handle such power. There's no way anyone truly believes that. Can you imagine a horrmonal, angst-ridden teenager with speedster powers running around? Yeah, that would have been a HORRIBLE idea. To be honest, imagining a speedster child is just as bad, if not worse. Especially since it appears that it's just Future Iris doing all of this on her own anyway. I think people are allowing their own personal hatred for Iris blind them to logic and reason. Yeah, we get it. You all hate Iris. Yes, Nora was a huge hypocrite (on top of being annoying af!), judging her mother for keeping secrets and lying while doing the exact same thing. If she, Nora, think she had good reasons to lie and hide things, why couldn't she give her mother the same courtesy?
