There is no stopping what's coming. They'll realize that once the Anti-Monitor arrives, he is no super villain or a world conqueror, HE'S A FORCE OF NATURE!

The worst feeling in the world for a parent is outliving your child. Harry thought Jesse would die in season 2, Barry lived it when Nora was erased from existence, now Joe must feel it. Of course Joe isn't ready, no parent ever is, however with Barry, Barry lived a good life. Yes it had pain and heartbreak, yet it also had love and joy. He gets to die knowing he made a difference in the world, which is more than many of us can say.

Brilliant performance from both of them. And yeah, Barry is right. It was Joe's example as a father that greatly contributed to his becoming the flash which was extension of him as a good person. In the beginning it was just Barry and Joe and team flash before Iris found out. I also think all of the lines of something that Joe had said to Barry in the first season about how having him as part of the house brought this light into the family. How he never lost in the face of so much darkness than any kid that it should never have to face. Beyond the physical saves, having Barry as part of the West family saved it. Flashpoint showed the kind of a wreck that Joe would be without it. His wife succumbed to alcoholism and left her husband and her daughter behind while pregnant and never told Joe about Wally. Joe opened his heart to a kid who had lost his mother and his father and helped him move forward from that tragedy without losing any of his light. That's an accomplishment all its own and a testament to the kind of man that Joe West is. A good cop and a loving parent. And, at the same time, helping Barry Allen also helped him heal. It made him a better person in return. The kind of person that he and team flash needed for this entire ride because he had become the surrogate father to everybody in that group. With all of that in mind, it makes Joe's reaction to Barry accepting this unfair fate that much harder. His son is going to die, he can't do anything to help him avoid it, and he's not ready to accept it. And Barry's reaction is understandable. Someone who has accepted his fate and is grateful for all of the blessings he had received in his life. And yes, there are tears because he doesn't want to die and lose everything. But they are also tears of joy because he realizes how much of a life he has lived and what he's accomplished and received. And beyond that he feels grateful that he has a chance to say goodbye to his father and tell him that it's OK.
