Well he’s a version of Reeve’s Superman, Superman Returns took place in the timeline of Superman 1 and the Richard Donner cut of Superman 2 where Superman 3 and 4 didn’t happen (at least yet since Routh’s return in the CW’s Crisis on Infinite Earths had him at least hint at Superman 3 when he said he’s not new to fighting himself after his fight with Tyler Hoechlin’s version), so Routh’s Superman is more like a variant of Reeve’s, I guess like Loki in the Loki show

Even though the director said it’s a continuation of 89 Batman, it didn’t feel that way to me. Also, something about having multiple Batmen and Superman but no Grant Gustin or John Wesley Ship feels so wrong. This movie should’ve honored The Flash character way more.

You know for a Flash movie, Barry Allen feels overshadowed by Michael Keaton's Batman and the cameos of every other superhero. I kinda don't mind a Flashpoint movie, but I kinda think that the film forgot that it was a Flash movie. I also remember people blaming Gunn for how The Flash turned out, citing how the reboot led to the cancellation of other future projects (notably Batgirl which was supposed to keep Michael Keaton as Batman). However, the film had long been finished before the reboot (and the only minor change is the ending scene of George Clooney Batman instead of keeping Michael Keaton as another alternate Batman).

The movie was riddled with problems but I did quite enjoy the movie we got and yes I wished it was just about Flash and him going on a journey against his villains, like The Rogues, Gorilla Grodd or Reverse Flash specifically. I do think the cameos while some questionable, did come from a place of genuine love for the past DC movies and tv shows that made fans of these characters today. I even shed tears when Flash said goodbye to his mother, which was probably the best part of the movie for me, even when I said to myself I wouldn't get emotional over this movie and for Ezra's Flash. Despite his crimes, Ezra does do a good job as a more mature Barry Allen in this movie, though that still doesn't mean I want to see him as the Flash for the DCU. Just cast someone new to play Barry or introduce Wally West. I hope the Flash has a prominent place in the DCU's future because the character deserves better content and representation of the legacy of the character than this film. Im personally hoping The Flash get a new rebooted movie that embraces the character as the noble and whimsical hero that he is who fights super-intelligent gorillas, bitter time-travelling rivals with super-speed and superpowered criminals with moral codes.

Wow, its almost like you can read minds. You pretty much summarized my thoughts on this. I remember when DC announced their original line up. The show was coming out, and the announcement of a feature Flash film got me stoked. Then, when Lord and Miller were announced to write the film, I was even more fucking stoked. The development-hell this went through flipped it on it’s back. There is a perfect Flash screenplay out there. This was just plagued by too much misfortune - Ezra, the idea of a reboot, the production itself - it’s truly crazy it came out. Like you said though, Flashpoint is overrated. Gimme Barry fighting a rouge, then rouges, then Thawn. That’s all. No big hoopla, just The flash stopping some baddies.

Honestly thank you for this and for the end of the video. I enjoyed the film, the first act was kinda weird for me but after that I had an enjoyable experience. I wouldn't come anywhere near to say its the best cbm of all time or even in the top 10 I do think there were some pieces here that I really enjoyed. You can criticise a film without insulting the countless artists who worked on the film, and it seems so many people have forgot you can do that. You can point out flaws you see in the film without insulting the fans of said film. I've been struggling with depression and suicidal ideation and seeing the few films i can enjoy being shit on so viciously kinda ruins my mental health. but I really like your reviews and ideas because you understand its not black or white. A "Bad" movie can have good bits and fans and a "Good" movie can have flaws and issues you can point out without insulting people. I hope soon that I can make more positive review content, that might be what I want to do, I know negativity gets views and clicks.. but I would really like to make a small little corner of the internet where I can talk about things I LOVE instead of constantly talking about stuff I hate. You are right, there is just way too much cynicism floating around the movie critic space. It feels less like genuine media criticism and more like just dogpiling on a movie for views
@DecoyZ Жыл бұрын
@@kbreezy1581 exactly right People can dislike a film for any reason they want to But when they make countless videos just saying "the worst film ever made" or "the ugliest film ever made" They're either coming at it from just pure cynicism to be cynics or they're getting on a bandwagon that could get a lot of views. I get some titles need to be provocative to get people to click on it, but some of these titles aren't even exaggerations compared to the video. People can dislike or like whatever film they please But it's when you start insulting the artists and the fans is when I think it goes more into "I'm just angry cause I like complaining" territory. There will always be more critical or cynical people in media consumption, my main issue is how mainstream it is now. Being negative gets you the views

You’ve sold me on Muscietti directing Brave and the Bold. I have some qualms, because I was not a fan of The Flash at all, but I think it’ll be pretty awesome seeing what he can do with his own interpretation of Batman since he was able to turn an iconic goofy performance in Tim Curry’s Pennywise and completely flip it with Bill Skarsgaard’s utterly terrifying portrayal of the same character. When was the last time that Batman himself was fucking SCARY on screen? Matt Reeves nailed aspects of that side (The Batman is a masterpiece) but I think with Andy’s creative freedom we could get a very fucked up duo of tortured Waynes who completely miss the point of being “superheroes” before having their own familial arc of becoming an iconic Batman and Robin. I have faith!

I get a of people want the reboot to skip to Wally, and Wally is a great character, but for me Barry Allen's Flash and his world I feel deserves a proper adaptation first. I mean how many actual Flash characters were in this new film, from what I hear not many, that's partly why I didn't see it. Granted the New 52 run was kind of my introduction to comics as a whole and made Barry's Flash my favorite superhero, so maybe I'm a bit biased, but at its best even the show which gave Barry nine years worth of material I felt missed the mark with a lot of aspects by giving him a team, how they handled his villains, among many other things. If this DC reboot is going ahead I really hope it's with a more pre-established universe from the start, I hope we get a Barry Allen who is more mature, has his rogues and has Wally as his sidekick. An aspect I feel isn't focused on enough is the contrast between how Barry presents himself as the Flash in contrast to how dark a lot of his past and personal life is, he doesn't pull a Bruce Wayne and let all that consume him and have his hero persona reflect his own trauma, and I've always liked that. In that sense he's always felt a bit like DC's Peter Parker to me, he feels like a very humble hero in spite of his insane powers, he's optimistic and pleasant which a lot of writers mistake for quippy. I think that would really come through if he had Wally as a sidekick, really show how defined each of their characters are and then later down the road they could really earn his death and Wally claiming the mantle. The mentor aspect I think would fit Barry really well in a film.

Barry's final decision means that he learned nothing from this whole experience and KINDA undermines the point of this storyline but I understand they probably wanted to give him a bit of a happy ending. I'm also not the biggest fan of the writers' decision to make the kryptonian invasion a pivotal part of the story especially because they didn't use the opportunity to recontextualize ZOD as a character or add on to his character. He was kinda just there for fan service and michael shannon didn't even look like he enjoyed being there. Although I liked Sasha Calle in the role, I was indifferent to the supergirl character. She felt more like a plot device than an actual character. There's a lot more stuff I had problems with but overall it was still an enjoyable experience. I'd say wait for the digital release

Even though I did enjoy the Flash movie (faults and all), I really wish we could’ve gotten a proper Flash solo movie!!!!! As a MASSIVE Flash fan (whether it’s Jay, Barry, Wally, or Bart), I have always wanted to see a movie (or a series of movies) based on the Flash and his mythos! I would’ve loved to see Flash’s origin, Barry being with Iris and developing that iconic relationship, Barry maybe training Wally or even meeting Jay, Bart, and other speedsters and key players in the mythos. And also definitely Flash go up against the likes of Captain Cold, Gorilla Grodd, or Reverse Flash! Unfortunately we are living in a time when DC (and WB) believe in a time when Flash can’t stand on his own (from the show, to the Justice Society animated movie a few years back that was advertised as a Flash movie, and now this)! Also I really wish that they could’ve had Flash based cameos, from Gustin, Shipp, Gallner, Rosenbaum (get some footage from JLU and say that since it’s a different universe it looks different), hell even put in Haase since he was the first ever interpretation of Flash (plus for shits and giggles too) instead of random cameos that honestly left me a bit empty and a bit disturbed (especially the George Reeves one considering the backstory).

I think the portrayal of grief was really strong to me. The emotional through line and theme of the movie really struck me hard and hit home in a lot of ways that a lot of superhero movies aren’t able to. I get all the behind the scenes stuff going on and all the problems with cgi, but the writing on display here is exactly what a comic book movie should have. The scene with Barry and his mom really really worked for me and was really powerful for me to watch as someone who has a lot of grief and wasted time with my own mother and family problems. I don’t think it’s nearly as bad as everyone is saying and I think for a younger audience it is a very good movie if not a great movie to touch upon grief. Edit: my father died when I was 15 and superheroes have always been my go to to feel better and to feel like I belong and like I am strong when I know it’s impossible to feel that way. I personally don’t think guardians 3 or spiderverse were nearly as good at depicting similar themes. While both of those movies are better than the flash, I don’t think they hit me nearly as hard as the flash did so I think it’s a personal thing. The Michael Keaton character I think actually really heavily tied into the movies story. So did the cameos. The idea is that the past is the past, you cannot relive it as much as you want to and I think cheap fan service actually pushed that theme harder than if the cameos were normal. These characters are relatable and memorable to people older than you and I. There was absolutely no way that you were born in the 80s or have any kind of connection to Keaton or reeves the way that the people producing the movie probably do so it probably feels more like fan service to us than it would to someone who actually grew up with the character. Everyone I know over the age of 45 loved this movie and thinks it brought them back to a simpler time.

My mate is the biggest flash fan and comic fan I’ve met , and gives DC & marvel props a lot of the time when it isn’t due… and when he said this film was mid that’s all I needed to hear 😂

You can literally stretch out the JLU episode about the Flash Appreciation Day into a 90 minute film and it would still be a better Flash story.
@marciofilho2137 Жыл бұрын
The funny thing is even that episode has Batman envolved.

it would be so cool if the flash got an animated movie with the art style and aesthetics of spiderverse also let wally be the main character for once

The reason they keep adapting Flashpoint is because it’s the only “Big” story the modern version of Barry Allen had. They’re dedicated to using Neo-Barry, who creates the Speed Force and is still hung up on his mom’s death. But there isn’t much to use there. OG Barry’s run wasn’t built on big stories, but on monthly adventures where they’d introduce new Rogues or super-science tricks. It was a different comics scene back then. The only stories that might be comparable are “Flash of Two Worlds” (more multiverse stuff. Though, maybe a better introduction to it), “Trial of the Flash” (infamous as a story that outstayed its welcome) and his death in COIE (which is, y’know, his death).

The only real gripe i have with the flash movie is the fact that they didnt give grant gustin and john wesley ship jr cameos.

No rush but just letting you know Troy I'm still hoping for an X-men pre write. Obviously im in my own little bubble but it feels like the X-men are underrated/not appreciated enough nowadays

My favorite part was how the Flash didn't fight anyone until the third act. When I heard they were making a Flash movie about the Flash the first thing I said was "man I hope Batman gets all the big action scenes for the first 2/3's of this Flash movie"

I know this video is a little old but, I love your content Troy, and that *is* partly because of your opinions on certain characters and storylines but it’s mostly because of you. How you handle your videos and put so much love and care into them is so refreshing on a platform that has become a place full of diluted content farms *cough cough Mr. Beast cough* (No hate to Jimmy, just think he might’ve changed the platform for the worse). And you always try and look at the positive side of things, no matter how trash an issue was, how bad the writing is, you always point out something awesome. You’re also just a really cool dude with great mustache and one of the nicest people on this platform. Keep going man, I love you dude.

The flash was a movie I somehow enjoyed more than rise of the beast for all the wrong reasons cause it was genuinely one of the funniest movies I’ve ever had the pleasure I’ve seen ,during that montage with the horrible cgi me and my friend legit started laughing our ass of cause how stupid it was

The Flash is the character that got me into comics more than 12 years ago, and so I share that disappointed feeling you have. I just wanted a good Flash movie with his supporting cast and one of his many incredible villains. The fact that we got a villain made up for the movie is almost offensive to me, considering how many amazing villains are in the comics.

I completely agree I love the flash as a character and I loved the series while it was good played by grant up until S4 then the writing became so bad but my pet peeves for this movie is I sat there asking why and are they intentionally turning Barry into a stupid person the scene when batman died not only did they make a mockery out of Batman but super girl and The Flash powers as a whole they didn’t need to go back in time to fix what happened again you are the fastest man alive … just move faster than anything and be aware of your surroundings for this Barry being of age and experienced he was so stupid and let so many stupid things happen because plot and the end goal was nothing there’s no conclusions the film couldn’t of happened and it wouldn’t impacted anything there’s no real consequences to any decisions made

When this movie was first announced and we found out it would be based on Flashpoint the first thought I had was.....wasn't this really REALLY early to be doing a reboot story? Keep in mind snyder was also going to do Flashpoint with the same idea of changing the timeline but by that point there was less than 5 movies released it was WAAAAAY to early to reboot

To be honest, I’ll probably wont be watching this movie in the near future. I didn’t love, but I didn’t hate it. But if I was to watch something from this movie, it would be 👇(SPOILERS)👇 1. Batman punching russians. 2. The Batfleck-motorcyle-chase. 3. The flashback-scene with the football-flash-suit. 4. The baby-in-the-microwave-sequence.

Yeah.. not sure why they didn't use Brandon Routh considering hes the Reeve version of Superman. That being said I'm pretty sure in the Crisis On Infinite Earths cw event the BurtonVerse was destroyed amd then restored at the end of it. DC multiverse in live action to me seems way too overused comapred to Marvel.

I relate to your struggle of being scared that your opinion will be strewn the wrong way and it making people turn against you. That happens whenever I write a book or do a script and most of the time I give up because I want to do my very best and make an amazing story. Hope you’re doing okay and that you know that I watch your channel cause I like listening to you.

I must say I’m curious as to what andy’s the brave and the bold will be as I thought the two Batman’s where pretty good but my biggest gripe was they where cool but both felt like they where just there. I think Andy has potential, especially with scarecrow if he uses his horror knowledge, also I really hope Ezra gets replaced, they where good in it but superhero’s are supposed to represent hope, Ezra is not that, the new flash should be either grant gustin as he needs a good script and hood cgi, his acting is already brilliant but I can understand that some people would want a recast I wouldn’t mind it either so I’d say Lucas till

Ayo, even as a Man of Steel fan, the callbacks were kinda eh. Michael Shannon felt like he was just sleep walking through his performance (I dont blame him), the final fight’s location was just bland and Zod and his cronies couldve EASILY been replaced with anything else. Sasha Calle as supergirl was fuggin cool tho, and I would love to see more of her.

To fix the Flash cameos Replace: George Reeves - Brandon Routh as Superman Christopher Reeves - Tom Welling as Superman in the last shot of Smallville Teddy Sears Copy - Grant Gustin in the Speed Force Nicolas Cage - Henry Cavill I feel like those cameos would make more sense, I’d leave Adam West as Batman just due to how iconic he is and it was repurposed footage, people who were watching this movie probably grew up from shows like Smallville and the Flash, Superman Returns was around during Smallville’s times so people may have watched it, even though Henry Cavill wasn’t a great Superman was him for a while and the move should have at least paid respect to him

Just to address your thoughts towards the end; I think you're cool. Sure, we don't always share the same opinions, but your sense of pacing, style of humour and methodology of criticism and praise. You can get me to see the positivies in things I didn't like and flaws in things I did, and in a clear and respectful way. Did I mention that you're also really funny? Think I did briefly, but yeah.

I feel like there were two other things that hurt this movie: 1. How Warner Bros./DC advertised it and 2. Its importance to the future DCU. I remember hearing about reviews that were hyping it up and calling it “one of the best superhero movies of all time”, so it makes sense that something that was far from hitting that bar set by the advertising wouldn’t do well. Another thing is that this movie, as far as I understand, is the genesis point for the DCU, so since it’s such a big event in THAT regard as well, people might’ve expected a better film and were disappointed.

Dastardly Death of the Rogues is the only "modern" Barry story that I genuinely love. New 52 and Rebirth are alright too. I have links to some in the description.
