I believe the trees are in rows because the area was logged and that’s how they planted the trees after the area was logged.

That definitely makes the most sense. Was just curious. I hard a rumor once that some branch of the military would plant trees in the U.P during peace time in the 50's and after. The logged idea seems more common to me. Thanks for the info!

But seeing that trail brought back memories of some of the old Father's day and Mother's day rides we use to take.

@@AdventureJeff269 rode this trail yesterday. grew up just a few miles north of here, and I still only live about 20 miles from here. haven't had an off road bike for about 2 decades. it was amazing to see it all again. still some snow, deep water holes, and a lot of fallen trees to work around. Made it a little unpredictable and a whole lot of fun!

They are planted like that unfortunately the U.P. will probably not have any hardwoods in the next 20 years. Every time they cut down hardwood they plant pine due to how fast it grows.
