After spending a few days on the space coast we drove 4 hours south to Key Largo. We were planning to spend 4 days kayaking and exploring the Florida Keys. Our first stop was the John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park. high winds made paddling Largo Sound difficult so we mainly kept to the mangrove trails. If you watch closely you just might see a manatee.

What an lovely paddle. Those mangroves are really awesome. Though I know you're a real gentleman, it took me by surprise that you didn't came over at speedboat speed to rescue the screaming misses from that kayakfeeding monster-manatee😉

The rubber ducky took quite a hit at 5:35 (his lawyer will be in touch). I'm curious why they don't allow rented kayaks in that one channel. Is it because of boat traffic? About 10 years ago I went to Islamorada in the Keys with a friend and we brought our inflatable kayaks and snorkel gear. Every place we jumped in was gin clear water with thousands of fish. It was like swimming in an aquarium. The wind is often a problem for paddle craft and we stayed fairly close to shore as I recall. There were manatees everywhere. That friend still works for the roads department in the Keys and just sent me a picture he took of an American Crocodile that swam up to their boat as they were inspecting a bridge the other day. In 2006 I SCUBA dived the USCGC Duane in John Pennekamp State Park and it remains my deepest dive at 120 feet to the sand. It's one of many wreck dives in John Pennekamp Park. Later that day we dived on the Molasses Reef after a 2 hour surface interval and it is one of the most beautiful reefs I've ever seen. That's great that you folks had this opportunity. The Florida Keys are a real treasure. Excellent video.

No idea on the rentals, I guess liability issues perhaps. On a less windy day the sound would have been nice to paddle.

The sunsets in the keys are awesome, such beautiful purples. Too bad the wind ruined the trip but at least you had a little excitement with the manatee. When I caught the first glimpse, I thought it was a big ray. I've seen some very big ones jump out of the water. I boated the Gulf Coast for about 10 years. A bad day on the water beats a good day at work, anytime. Thanks for sharing.

Despite the wind we had a great time navigating through the mangroves.

A few years ago we were down there for a week and paddle this park. We stay in Tavernier off of Burton Dr and down the way from us was Harry Harris beach and park. We paddle that spot a bunch of times and paddled around to dove creek and check it out. Beautiful area. Also took some time and paddled a bit of Indian key channel area near Robbie's, first time seeing a croc up close and personal.

We paddled to Indian Key, that video should be out in a few weeks. We saw a few small sharks during that paddle.

Hello this was a nice kayak Adventure. I'm in Miami a lot so one of these weekends I would love to go there. I really like the mangos Channel. They look so awesome to kayak through. I also like your flip flop. Are they leather because they look like it in the video. I would like to get me a leather pair. This was a good video I enjoyed watching it thank you for sharing.

Thanks for watching. It was a great area and would love to go back, I highly recommend it. I think I got the flip flops at TJ Maxx or Ross.

@@Kayak7seas okay TJ Maxx or Ross. Flip flops is the only footwear that will fit my very very wide feet. I have big very very wide feet sz15 6 EEEEEE wide with very fat wide toe that are equally straight across making my foot very very extremely wide. They don't make a shoe , sock , or boot that is wide enough for a foot that is 6 1/2 inches wide from the big toe to the little toe so flip flops is the only Footwear that will fit me. It really sucks like right now where it is 28 degrees outside and I have to wear flip-flops outside. Thank you for the information sir I appreciate that. Looking forward to your next Kayak Adventure.

Poor ducky..lol. Nice trip. I have a high pressure inflatable kayak, do you think it’s safe to navigate that through the mangroves or is there too much danger of impaling it on something?
@Kayak7seas

It's really hard to say since I've never paddled an inflatable. I do know that most inflatables are pretty rugged and I have seen them in mangroves as well as on the French Broad where there is a chance of encountering a sharp rock. If you do paddle it through the mangroves just be vigilant about sharp branches that might be just below the surface.

That would be rather dangerous. Risky craft is risking life. I've been fishing in Florida by foot and small craft for a long time. Largo Sound by kayak is one of my favorites. Bonefish, cuda, snook etc. However, you never know what can happen out there. Winds can blow you into a bad spot with a big fish on... Stay safe.

Can you give us some insight, how long was this trip, 4 hours? And what was the path you took? Also are local kayak rentals available? Would appreciate it. Thanks

Thanks for watching. John Pennekamp State Park does have a kayak rental area, we brought our own and were out on the water for 3 hours or so. The rental place might have a map to help out with the specific path, we just paddled and explored with no real destination in mind.
