Here's Atari's famous "The Fly" theatrical advertisement for 'Yar's Revenge', 'Star Raiders' and other games for the Atari 2600 Video Computer System.
It was directed by Clark Anderson and co-directed by John Hughes, who both worked at Los Angelos-based Computer animation studio Robert Abel and Associates (RA&A).
Animation was done on a Evans & Sutherland machine, the animated objects were filled with fine lines and filmed frame-by-frame from a hires (monochrome) vector monitor. Color was added with optical printing, compositing the many elements together. RA&A had gained a lot of experience in their animated sequences for TRON (1982). The actor is Rod Davidson.
The ad premiered in cinemas across the USA before STAR WARS: EPISODE VI: RETURN OF THE JEDI on may 25th, 1983.
More info on the making of process can be found in an article from Technology Illustrated Magazine, which was reprinted in Atari Age magazine of July/August 1983.
I purchased this ad on 35mm years ago and recently had it transferred on a DFT Scanity™ Film Scanner to full frame 1920x1440 10-bit DPX files, so it could be featured in the documentary ATARI: GAME OVER (2014) by Zak Penn. I did some minor color correction. In a screening some years ago (I've screened it on quite some occasions), the Philips DP70 that projected the reel it was one ripped the start in half. I'm still in the process of restoring it digitally. I uploaded an Apple ProRes 422 (HQ) 1080p24 file, so all H.264 encoding was done by KZbin.

This Atari 2600 theatrical commercial in 35mm is super awesome! By the way, the voice-over is completely different.
