It amazes me that so many railfans feel the need to stand right to the edge of the track to get their videos. One of these days one will get clobbered by something flying off. As an engineer, seeing stuff like this drives me nuts.
@walterfink9782 Жыл бұрын
I agree. Standing that close to a train traveling faster than a crawl, can be dangerous to one's health. What would happen, if an object flew out from the train, and headed right at you? Or worse, the train were to derail, right in your direction? Chances are, your friends and family would be answering these questions. Because you would be seriously injured or worse, killed immediately!

Railfan here, and I can assure you there are some common sense railfans out there, including myself. I usually take 25 steps from the rail back and that's where I'll usually be positioned. Common sense unfortunately isn't common among the community

Great video mate! We don't have freight trains going this fast in my country, so that was certainly a sight to see. I'm not going to argue about standing too close to the rails but I believe that the sound of rails are muffled by the intense wind wake created by the train due to your proximity to the rails. I would have loved to hear the rail seam sounds on this speed but all I can hear is "whooosh-whoooosh" :D

@KTRFP Жыл бұрын
If a train were to derail at track-speed, the entire area and any people would be gone. It wouldn't really matter how far back on the platform we were standing. I will agree with you that I was pretty close in a couple of the clips, but for the most part it was just the tripod that was extremely close to the Z trains.

@@KTRFP If you're within 30 feet or less of a train moving 70 MPH, you won't even have time to flinch before whatever the train kicks up from the roadbed or whatever flies off the train goes right through you. That station is built all too close to those tracks.

I’m surprised no one got sucked into the train with the speed and wind if they were THAT close. For train crews that’s the most Nail Biting thing of all is seeing someone less than 10 feet from the tracks going 70 mph. I can see why the railroad has a hatred for “foamers” or “rail photographers” since everyone is considered as one now.
