I guess it's all good for them, P&R, publicity and all that jazz. They are always interested into that kind of stuff (Think how they participated in the Final Countdown, Top Gun etc.) but they sure won't let anybody (think Joe pilot) from the fleet do it. With Pail they seem to be in good hands.

For real... I buried my father (87) last year (US. Marine Aviator 1st and Army Aviator 2nd. Retired Army LTC.) I knowingly disobeyed my dads last orders to me to keep his funeral simple and short. I requested and He received a full military and a fly over (choppers as it was his main gig). I did not receive conformation of the fly over till that morning and when I did, I threw out all my plans and worked with the Captain in charge to have everything completed in 30 mins. Being former Army (Dad handed my my first orders to proceed to The 101st.. 13Bravo 155) I handled it with aplomb and managed to obey the keep it "Short" part. I sure miss him a lot!

Great video. Every time the Braves or Falcons have a flyover, sometimes staged out of Dobbins ARB, the Nextdoor message boards light up with “why were the military jets flying around?” Most are newer people who weren’t there when NAS Atlanta had Hornets or the ANG had Eagles or the Raptors were being made there. I miss those “sounds of freedom.”

I was wondering about that. The guys on the ground given their “appearance”, I figured they couldn’t be active duty military. So you’re saying they depend on civilian contractors to do this function for them?

I always wondered how they got the timing down on these flyovers. Knowing that there was (obviously) someone in the stadium talking to the aircraft, I always incorrectly assumed the jets were in a holding pattern much closer, maybe 30ish seconds away, which *could* make it seem more doable if the cue was "And the rockets' red glare" or wherever that would fall in the timing. I was quite wrong and I'm that much more impressed. Thank you for sharing this, Pail. Love the channel!

Our local pilots' club has done a few flyovers, and we didn't always have the luxury of having a ground controller available. Plus, it's hard to get Cessna 150s, Cherokee 180s, and everything in between lined up and in trail. November 2019 I and a retired F-16 friend did a to-ship missing man formation for 106 year old Eugene Engledow (Google his name; you'll be glad you did). Terry flew a Van's RV-8, painted in P-51 livery, with smoke onboard. He had an IO-360, so he had plenty of power; I had a slightly modified O-320, and was #1; A shallow dive to Vne for me, and him on my right wing. Just as we leveled out over the gravesite, he turned on the smoke and pulled a vertical. Gene deserved it. Thanks for this walk-through.

The "BOSS" went through each rehearsed maneuver with that same kind of voice.
