Interesting, how many years does it take to get to the point in your career to be a Super Hornet pilot taking off carriers? It would be hard to call flying one of these jets' work. I'm sure it takes a ton of hard work to get to control a multi-million dollar machine.

It takes about 3 years of training.

Can only imagine what it must feel like in a WW2 plane affected more by the wind (or is that a factor?) and the possibility of a Japanese zero etc.

I was an air traffic controller in CATCC on CVN-65 back from 1998 to 2000! I remember those long nights and intrigued how you pilots manage having flying at a daily basis. Especially on excersises and in combat! Thanks for this demonstration on setting up! Wish KZbin was around back then to better understand what you guys go through! Our only perspective was that black and white screen on the Air Ops tube monitor! 😂

I love these videos. I used to enjoy my father's stories from when he worked on the wooden flight deck of the USS Wasp in the mid 50s. One night the entire flight deck caught fire when a Grumman AF (anti-sub plane) made a hard landing and ruptured its fuel tanks. I believe they sailed to Japan, where the deck got re-planked with teak.

Thank you for giving us the opportunity to be in the cockpit with you. I really enjoyed the video and the information. How exactly is the catapult attached and how does it release?
@GrowlerJamsКүн бұрын
The “launch bar” at the front if the nose gear hooks into the shuttle on the catapult. At the end of the catapult (when the jet is a fly-away speed), the jet simply flies away.

Coming back into Long Beach from Vietnam in 1967, I was one of 15 crew members chosen for exceptional duty to come in one day earlier by being catapulted off the U. S. Kitty Hawk CVA-63 aboard a mail plane. Loved the rush. Now the Kitty Hawk is being scrapped at Brownsville, Texas. Maybe one day you will own a car or fly in a plane that was made with some of the steel from the Kitty Hawk.

This was awesome. I was a medical professional for a fixed wing ambulance service out of Yuma Az. About 50 miles from El Centro. We flew out of the Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) and went to El Centro many times. It was great to have my old stomping grounds featured. Thanks.
