The Focus is Freezing - Heating Issue Quick Fix

Welcome. This time I bring you a very simple quick fix if you are having heating issues inside your car. This video was filmed on my Ford Focus ST-3, Where the coolant level was too low, and required topping up to allow the heating to get warm in the car.
Simple fix I admit, But I'm hoping that somewhere out there this video will help a less mechanically minded person rectify their issue.

You sir, are an absolute gentleman. Wife's old focus decided to stop heating when it was 2 degrees outside. Always a gamble if it should be fixed or replaced but you have kept it going for a bit longer. Top job, thanks fella!

My wife said her heater had stopped working the other day. I found your video, and the coolant had indeed run out! Topped it up, and all’s good. Thanks for the simple video. We will be keeping a close eye on the expansion tank now though!

It is an easy fix if your coolant is low but also you would be better off if you topped it off with antifreeze because if you have to much water in your system when you park your car at night your cooling system could freeze and if your water pump ends up frozen you’ll be in for heavy repairs. Also if you do decide to top off with water you should make sure it’s distilled water because minerals in regular water can bond to the antifreeze and break it down more quickly over time.

You just solved my problem. Iwas in my focus 2012 freezing when I decided to check out a quick fix from you tube. Thanks God I stumbled on this. Few minutes ago I was freezing, now I got the heater back on. I'm soo happy!

I just replaced my t state thinking it was stuck open. I had heat inside but the car hardly got to running temp Run cool and cold. Figured it was stuck open Now the new stat doesn't open! Engine gets to proper temp. Pita

Notice my heat not working right recently and my coolant was low. Topped it off and it was low again the next day. From the looks of it I've got a leak in the expansion tank at the front so that's another job...

Must be a leak or head gasket it should not disappear like that also you never just put in water only in an emergency should always be proper antifreeze mix even in summer it prevents corrosion and lubricates the water pump.

@@jay9879 thanks. Can tap water cause damage? Also u might be able to help. This morning I checked the coolant and it was in the bottom of the tank. When I took the cap of the pressure brought back the liquid to the top? It's sign of air lock?

@@ferenctoth9237 it can be corrosive to the internals, no from you have described it’s normal, the system will pressurise when running and vacuum the coolant, as long as the levels not dropping or overheating then you should be fine

Hello mate hopefully not a cracked cylinder liner? If no leaks shouldn't be losing it. Cracked liners are a huge common issue. A lot of forums and pages will always suggest a "blockmod" where they strengthen the cylinder liners. Usually on modded cars but can be common on standard st's

Coolant leaks. excessive white smoke and misfiring are some of the tell tale signs.

Bunny that's what I thought. No excessive smoke. No miss fire. Doesn't skip a beat.

Bluudys Garage typical head gasket signs lot of smoke out the back. If not not leak have to think where's it going. I know the st roads are terrible for leaking I replaced mine with a airtec one costly tho 500quid

End result for this was cracked cylinder liners causing the coolant to leak and evaporate. Maybe you have the same issue.

Dont take your cap off when hot. Always wait for it to cool down. Always check level when cool and top up when needed.

Do not put water in your car when temp is bellow freezing. Guess what water freezes

If you have no antifreeze then no dont. But if you already have antifreeze in you can top up a little. But too much will affect the antifreeze.
