Ana Marie Brits hate this song because we defeated them and had their empire on its knees and just as we going for the final blow a civil war broke out and we were taken back 10 years, back to british occupation but eventually we achieved a 26 county nation and are still fighting for the 6 more by pen and ballot box.

It's been 3 or 4 years ago, since my interest in folk music rose. Since then "The Foggy Dew" is one of my favourite tunes from Ireland. And, what's more, whenever I need new songs for my own repertoire, your channel still is my first address to look after. I also appreciate your blog as very helpful for musicians no matter of which level (with 30 years as an amateur I am an experienced old dog, myself). So, I just wanted to say: Thank you, Jesse, for being such a great source of inspiration!

Beautifully done! One of my favorite Irish rebel, songs I play all the time on my tin whistle. But on a side note has anyone heard the version of this song with that extra verse that goes "And the night turned black as the rifle's crack made perfidious Albion reel, midst the leaden rain seven tongues of flame shined out or the lines of steel, with shining blade a hero said 'unto Ireland her sons be true, and when mornin broke still the warflag shook out her folds in the foggy dew." It seems rare

I have the lyrics and sheet music to it. That is the third verse of the song. I like playing it on the accordion. It is one of the many great songs written about the Easter Rebellion.
@scottroche47624 жыл бұрын
As down the glen one Easter morn To a city fair rode I There armed lines of marching men In squadrons passed me by No fife did hum, no battle drum Did sound its dred tattoo But the Angelus bells o'er the Liffey's swell Rang out through the foggy dew Right proudly high over Dublin town They hung out the flag of war 'Twas better to die 'neath an Irish sky Than at Suvla or Sud el Bar And from the plains of Royal Meath Strong men came hurrying through While Brittania's huns with theirlong-range guns Sailed in through the foggy dew 'Twas Brittania bade our wild geese go That small nations might be free But their lonely graves are by Suvla's waves On the shore of the gray North Sea But had they died by Pearse's side Or fought with Cathal Brugha Their names we would…
