Related joke to hopefully brighten your day. During the Battle of Britain, the BBC sends a radio van down to the south coast to follow the raids. A big one comes in and the Allied fighters rise to meet it. A Hurricane gets shot down, and the pilot bails out. He lands nearby. The reporter runs over. It turns out he’s Scottish. “I say, sir, how was it?” “Och, there were Fokkers to the left, Fokkers to the right, Fokkers all around. I hate them Fokkers.” Embarrassed silence. “For the benefit of our gentle listeners, a Fokker is a type of German aircraft.” “Aye, y'right, but these Fokkers were Messerschmitts.”

I love that you put so much personality into your videos these days, the de-icing segment in particular was hilarious. You are a brave soul. On a side note, I’ve always loved any plane with an unusual or uncommon design. Maybe growing up in central Australia meant that I only ever saw and flew on Boeing 737s, so anything else looks different and interesting, but I just love the T-tail look. In particular though, I love the Ilyushin Il-62, and now I’m curious if that design had its own quirks.
@beenaplumber837912 сағат бұрын
My first reaction was "No! Not the watermelon dress! I hope that's washable!" If you like the IL-62, there are at least two others that have that same configuration - the British Vickers VC-10 and the Lockheed JetStar business jet. The VC-10 is out of service, but the JetStar is still in use. (The JetStar's not a true T-tail though, more of a mid-tail.)

I remember the Air Ontario and the subsequent U.S. Air crash quite well. It was all over the media. Full disclosure, I am from Ontario, but I can tell you with a great degree of confidence that the failure of communication was solely the responsibility of the FAA. We do in fact have official documentation, receipts, etc, proving that the TSB did indeed send the full report to their American counterparts. Anyway, I have been looking forward to your next drop for quite some time, in anticipation. Needless to say, I was not disappointed. Your research is exceptional, the level of depth you go into is exceptional, and yet made clear enough for those among us who are laymen. Of course, your videos would not be complete without your quirky sense of humour, and I was not disappointed there either! With much appreciation, cheers from Canada.
@OwlRTA9 сағат бұрын
The TSB wasn't even involved with the management of the Air Ontario crash investigation. The CASB only controlled the investigation from March 11th to 29th in 1989, at which point control was handed to Moshansky's Commission. The Commission itself admitted that they didn't really send their second interim report to the FAA.

Your work is amazing, and this video is the pinnacle. Just as an side note, and to cut the Fokker some slack besides your spotless research: My dad flew the F-28 during the mid-eighties and to this day speaks very fondly of it, especially regarding its general sturdiness, reliability and quality of construction (and those Rolls Royce engines). In fact, some of those same airframes, of which a few are from the late 60s and 70s, still fly to this day or have done recently for the Argentine Air Force. Climate and geographic conditions (and airport infrastructure) in this large country differ greatly from one area to the other and the F-28 has shown, in general terms, a solid operational life throughout and is quite loved down here by pilots and mechanics alike. Cheers!

Great video! Fun fact: TWA put a black strip on the wing of many of its aircraft that also had a sandpaper-like texture on it so that a pilot or maintenance rep could reach up and not only see the visual of the black but also do a tactile check to give something to feel that wasn't already smooth (like the skin of the aircraft).

Australian here. The Fokkers, all of them, I adore. We operated the aircraft from very early on in their story, dating all the way back to Ansett introducing them in 1970. The F-28 MK1000 was the first jet powered aircraft to ever fly a domestic route in Australia. Due to the fact that it is f..k off hot here basically all the time, the icing issue never reared it's head. Even today, Qantaslink and Virgin Australia still operate F-100s on FIFO services to mining communities in Outback Western Australia. In the hot conditions, the F-100 is on it's element
