Wasn’t paying attention and did that once. Tried explaining I just made a mistake. They made me pull over, then searched my car. Pulled everything out, dumped it all on the ground. When they didn’t find anything, they told me to pick my shit up and leave. I’ll never make that mistake again.

Americans are super suspicious people and they won't usually allow you to turn around before the border because they'll automatically assume it makes you a criminal. I hate dealing with US security. They make even simple tourists feel like criminals even if they have done nothing wrong.

And it’s the US side that gives us a hard time getting back in. Last time I went to visit family near Tobermory the Canadian side ACTUALLY gave us a hard time getting over there too. We were clearly a family on vacation and they searched our minivan for a good 4 hours and made us wait in their little border waiting room. I guess it depends on what country you're a citizen of. I live in Sault Ste Marie, ON, Canada (so close to Michigan there is a Sault Ste Marie, MI, USA) and our bridge always has a wait into the states and none on the way back. Every time I cross some random shit happens. One time my car was straight up x-rayed at random. That never happens in Canada. Now Americans coming here think their laws still apply, so we have to ask questions like, "Do you have an illegal and entirely unnecessary firearm on you?" Meanwhile, y'all are threatening to arrest us at the border for a 0.5 joint we forgot in a backpack in our trunk or some shit but will campaign for a woman basketball player who did the same shit in a hostile nation. PS. Your customs officers have negative 1 sense of humor.
