It’s my understanding that worms don’t actually eat the food per se, but rather the decomposed matter digested by the microorganisms. It doesn’t matter what the organic matter was before decomposition. They will consume anything that can decompose.

@@northeastworms Ahhh, I’m late to the game. Using Bokashi is a good method for pre composting. Once I put my Bokashi in my outside compost it disappears in a few days. I’m fairly new to vermicomposing, but I’ve come to use sifted compost as my bedding and using worm chow to feed them. I’m using an open bin with a cardboard and plastic cover. Worms seem very healthy and vigorous. I keep them in my basement so I’m extra motivated to keep anything that will encourage flies. Thank you for your videos, they are very useful in helping me figure out the best method for me.
