Congratulations- The Falcons (and the Sprint particularly ) are perfect cars for DIY old school restorations. Parts are plentiful and relatively cheap. I did the same thing with a '65 sedan that sat for 18 years in a barn. I don't know if you've even gotten this far along yet but you probably should prepare yourself for some important repairs that are in your future. First is the transmission. Any auto transmission that sits for that long without fluid circulating is going to need to be rebuilt. Without fluid circulation the internal seals dry up and crack and then you'll lose internal hydraulic pressure and then your transmission will not engage. Mine worked for about a hundred miles before it died. When this time comes, you may rebuild it or better yet, consider swapping it for the C4 model they started using in 1965. It's better than the two-speed Ford-o-matic they used prior to 1965, but of course you'll need to change some other major parts to do the swap. The second - and thankfully- less expensive item you'll need to fix is the valve stem seals in the cylinder heads. These are the little rubber cup-shaped seals that fit over the end of the valve stems to prevent oil from leaking down the valve stems into the combustion chamber. After sitting for years with no lubrication they will have dried up and turned brittle. When the car runs for a while and gets to operating temperature, you'll probably start burning oil. Thankfully you can change these without removing the cylinder heads; it just takes a valve spring compressor and an air compressor adapter to pump air into the cylinder via the spark plug hole( this keeps the valve pushed up so it doesn't drop into the cylinder when you remove each valve spring. Last near-term fix is the carburetor. Don't waste time diddling with the carb until you've rebuilt it. The little rubber seal will need to be replaced in the accelerator pump. It's relatively simple and cheap to take care of that. Last item is the ignition. Don't bother putting new points and condensor. Buy a Pertronix ignitor and get perfect timing and a stable spark that never needs to be adjusted. Best $100 you'll spend on that car. Have fun!

BigIronMusic very thorough! Haha yes to all! While I have just begun this long adventure I know there are a lot of big and small things that need to be replaced/rebuilt to get closer to its “original” state. I’ve actually been kicking around the idea of converting a tremec built 5 speed conversion😳 but know I won’t get too many miles out of the trans that is in it right now. The cylinder heads, well let’s just say I don’t plan to keep them lol I do believe it’s burning a bit oil already 😂 I have been kicking around some thoughts for the carb as well. Idk if we are gonna change it in general and eventually go to a 4 barrel upon the ignition upgrades, cylinder heads...etc. but in the mean time we have a “back up” rebuilt carb to replace it in case haha. Thanks so much for the input! Very helpful tips!✌🏽😁

What motor you got in that bad boy? I'm about to start work on my 66 F250 with a 352FE. Also going for a budget build. Giving myself $2500 limit to get it street ready. Follow along on my channel if you'd like.

What do 1960-63 Falcon cars with 13" rims do? What size rims and tires do we need to upgrade to safely? 4 or 5 lug rims? Is there a size limit to the wheel wells on these old cars? No one talks about these important points in any of these videos. What new tire size are we required to buy? We 13" tire people need some specific answers here please!

Could you tell us an estimate of how much money you spent on this front disc conversion please ? I need to make room for this in my budget for my 64 falcon wagon budget. Thanks 🙏 and thank you for making awesome media
@ReelTake
@ReelTake 3 жыл бұрын
The front disc rotors, calipers, bearings and stainless steel brake lines were about $650(that’s the kit). The master cylinder (with proportioning valve) was around another $350. Sounds expensive...is kinda lol but I think it’s wel worth it! Major difference and feels so much safer! Unfortunately, you do need to buy the master cylinder in order for it to work properly compared to your drum brake master cylinder🤷🏽‍♂️Hope this helps a bit! 😁✌🏽

I want to concert my 63 falcon convertible to disc brakes also. Your videos are awesome. My problem is that I have 13 inch rims. What size are your rims. Will the willowood brakes work with 13 inch rims?
@ReelTake
@ReelTake 3 жыл бұрын
13inch wheels did technically fit however, I couldn't keep them becaust of how the wheel was welded together. To be honest I would suggest 14inch wheels just so you have more options available as in offsets and so on. With the 13inch wheel it seemed like a zero offset seemed to work decent. But then again, I don't know much about wheel measurements so you have been warned😆. Thank you for watching and hope this helps a bit!😁✌🏽

How did you do the brake line ?
@ReelTake
@ReelTake 3 жыл бұрын
The brake line was plug and play. It comes with multiple fitting sizes so you can match up to the OEM hard brake lines just fine. The kit also comes with new retainer clips that slide into the brake hose plate to fasten it properly as well 😁. Hope this helps✌🏽
