The GBR is having the best 2 years in recorded history. 2022 through 2024 has shown growth of the reef never before seen. You don’t hear about it because there is no money when there is no fear to spread.

It's absolutely not growing enough to make up for the losses.

That information comes direct from the Australian Institute of Marine Science, but dig a little deeper and it seems you have distorted that info. 2016 was the worst bleaching event on record, which was followed up by a few years with minimal impacts. We had 3 bleaching events, with minimal mortality (meaning most corals survived, but still have flow on issues, such as slower growth), along with a few years of no cyclones, so yes, coral started to recover and AIMS reported that living coral cover was at a record high... but dig deeper. What coral was recovering? That increase in coral cover was largely due to Acropora growth, like pioneer species after a wildfire. It grows quick, but is brittle. It damages easily in cyclones. It is the favourite food of COTs and also most susceptible to bleaching, so now we have a less diverse and less resilient ecosystem. Now, AIMs has reported that this last Summer was the worst on record for the number of impacts on the GBR in a single season. Cyclones, bleaching, COTs outbreaks, all at once, and whilst follow up surveys are ongoing, early reports are suggesting that much of that regrowth has been lost.
