Not really pumped about KZbinrs trying to write (huh, Daniel Greene...), and with such a cover I would never have picked up that book. That said, plenty of fantasy races, a world ending story, for adults (not watered down), solid prose (! Much needed for me), I'll probably give it a go, so thank you 🍃 (to you both)🍃

Thanks for actually talking about the ACTUAL physical aspects of the book. So many reviewers completely skip that. I loathe lengthy descriptions but I LOVE these books. He does a thing I call deliberate description. It plays into the story instead of detracting from it. The second book gets darker 😏 I really love Nail. Definitely has more in store for Ava. The Blackest Heart was AMAZING!! I'm going to have a hard time picking my favorite book of the year between The Blackest Heart and Project Hail Mary. "The book could have been longer." Never thought I would agree with this statement. (Edit) I'd also like to point out that this book has a PLOT!! Epic fantasy with a plot?!? What?!?

I really enjoyed TBH as well (filmed this a while back) and was very impressed with how fresh he kept it over all these pages. I did have a bigger issue with one particular thing in book 2 but overall thought it was an improvement over book one. I am really excited to see where book 3 goes!

Great review Jimmy! I like that you mentioned the merfolk as that isn't something I've seen often in my fantasy reading. I always thought of something akin to Little Mermaid and couldn't take them seriously until playing Tactics Ogre: The Knight of Lodis (Gameboy Advance) where they are a bit more fleshed out and real/gritty/tragic. The religion angle of this intrigues me, along with knowing Durfee's personal connection to Nail gives it a legit feel (I imagine, we'll see!) If you enjoyed the religion aspect and you're curious about that being explored in a sci-fi setting, I think you might also be interested in Ada Palmer's Too Like the Lightning (Terra Ignota series). I've only dabbled in it (part of my "First Chapter Sampling Sundays / Reading ADD") so I may eat my words here, but so far it has me wanting to continue!
