I've been waiting on this review for awhile and you absolutely delivered! Mr. Durfee has clear and vibrant love for reading the fantasy genre and I'm glad you enjoyed his work. As for the review itself, I couldn't be happier with how you delivered you thoughts on this and decided to go with the number ratings for categories once again. You could really tell you thoroughly chewed on this when you read it, and gives me a clearer amalgamation of well done it is as a viewer. One of my favorite reviews by you in awhile and can't wait to see more 👏🏿

For an author whose main job is being a corrections officer and doing some epic writing on the side is pretty amazing. That being said for someone getting a score like that it is pretty impressive and it shows how much potential that this author has. It is a fair review and I’m anxious for the third installment!

Mr Greene, I really enjoy the way you review newer, lesser-known books such as The Forgetting Moon. You're more focused on how an author produces a story from world-building, character and prose, with your thoughts conveyed and emphasised for what the book is like to read, that I might be interested to read the series. In my opinion, you could add a summary of the plot and who the characters are. (Even though its fantasy and readers can have a slight idea of what story they'll get into). Still, I'm really enjoying your dedication to your channel and reviews of books and I'm looking forward to any future reviews. Keep it up. You deserve it.

I love the descriptions in this book! Didn't seem anymore repetitious or overtly excessive in description to me any more than George RR Martin or Robert Jordan. One definitely has to have a love of epic fantasy and be able to respect the fact that Brian was setting up the following books with some intense world-building in this volume. Sanderson did the same thing with The Way Of Kings. I think we tend to give leeway to authors we like vs newer ones. I have more of an issue w/ Sanderson who does the same thing and adds sooooo much filler. Prose is so subjective it's kind of a push. One thing we know for sure after reading? Brian likes blonde hair. I actually liked Nail. As for it being so heavy with world building, how can you profess a love of Tolkien who does soooo much world building (much of which goes nowhere) but have a problem with it in other books?

The review was spot on, I couldn't agree with the overflooding of information critism more! The world was interesting, but I can see the massive worldbuilding element being a detriment for some readers. And Jondralyn sure was a well-written character, although for me, I had problems connecting with her agenda and her sense of rising self-importance, and grown to hate her somewhat. For me, the most interesting part was the subtle subversion of classic fantasy tropes - the chosen one ended up being a loser; the aspiring warrior wannabe ended up maimed and dishonored; the mandatory travelling montage wasn't accompanied by valiant heroism and high deeds, but rather by desperation and fear. An interesting blend of grimdark and high fantasy elements that set this book apart, in my opinion.

I hate it when people complain about spoilers that are mild or can be deduced if you read the book description. Professional movie and book reviewers in newspaper and magazines get away with having way more spoilers than people talking about things on KZbin, Reddit or Facebook. Here spoiler police come out when you read product description on the back cover.

IMO, I don't get people who criticise flowery prose in fantasy. Authors are creating a world and this kind of prose adds colour to the world. As is the issue of people who read fantasy yet don't like 500 pages of words. So many decent fantasy books follow this pattern. It makes no sense to me.
