Fortunately, LEGO's recent collaboration with 2K on LEGO 2K Drive gives us that familiar LEGO Racers 2-esque gameplay, building your own vehicles and traversing multiple hubs which was cool to see. Sure it has the silly microtransactions, but it's got a similar vibe.

I miss this era, man. Such a charm we don't see nowadays. And a shout-out to the Drum 'n Bass/Jungle music you have playing in the background throughout the video. Very fitting for the era as that was everywhere in the 90s and 2000s.

Best part of the original run of the PC lego games big box packageing, was the CD-rom case cases had lego studs on the spine, and you could stack those cases on eachother or use regular Lego bricks to build on them. If i remember correctly Lego Loco had a feature that you could send "postcards" to other people who had that game over the internet
@IBNStudios7 ай бұрын
To tell you the truth, I have yet to ever play Loco haha, one of the few I've missed. But that is so cool that they would include. Lego truly felt magical as a kid back then

I had so much fun with Lego Loco as a kid, I enjoyed the paint shop the most, and sending passenger trains to the North Pole at the last minute and getting complaints when they returned haha Great video man, thanks for your dedication and research! Pre-Lego Star Wars really was a different era.

The TT Lego Games are fine, but they don't feel like a Lego-based video game, they feel like a regular puzzle game with Lego branding.
@IBNStudios7 ай бұрын
Exactly. They don't offer any variety. I'm happy LEGO 2K Drive was the first game to finally break from that mold.
@Cyberbrickmaster19867 ай бұрын
Even LEGO City Undercover, despite being a GTA clone, is still at its core a typical LEGO platformer by TT. I hope that if they make some kind of successor, they'll make it more of its own thing and be more in line with the TV series.

LEGO Racers is by far the most nostalgic to me out of all of the early LEGO games. It introduced me to all of the great 90's sub themes that I missed out on as a kid.

I have immense nostalgia for lego racers 1 and remember playing it a lot as a kid...despite being born in 2002. we had it for the computer for windows xp, but sadly are now unable to play it. BUT since I now know that it released for the N64 and playstation, I can actually get a console version. yay.

I was surprised that you would mention the Japan exclusive Lego game for the Sega Pico as there is another one exclusive that was for the PS1 believe it or not. It was released under the Kidstation brand of PS1 games which was a kids TV block and the games were published by Bandai and Atlus; Bandai handled the Lego game btw. They even made special controls for the games.

It's a pretty solid game but like all the ones developed by TT Games, it has the same style of gamplay, though there are a lot of new mechanics that were made for it.

i really am glad we've been getting some new lego games that aren't TT made over the last several years. the puzzle game brick tales 2k Drive (despite its mixed reviews) and the Forze horizon 4: LEGO Speed Champions or the lego brawls party brawler game. builders journey. and even if made by TT the Lego Worlds game was always quite charming to me personally. personally i hope we start to see a return to the time before lego star wars as the TT Lego Games have become stagnant to put it politely.

Good video! Some of the old browser games were surprisingly impressive too, such as Backlot, Junkbot, Mars Mission and some of the Lego Racer games. This might be fussy of me to mention, but the one thing that disappointed me a bit in this video was that you seemed dismissive of the Lego Island sequels. I understand everyone has preferences, but for me those games left a big impression. While I'm sure they wouldn't be very exciting to me now, it was incredible as a child to be able to step into those worlds and explore every nook and cranny. I actually kinda want to have another look at Xtreme Stunts some day, as I remember it having some gameplay ideas I still find pretty interesting. Anyway, as I said, good video, and sorry if I'm nitpicking! It's nice to see an overview of the much more creative old Lego games and a few details about their development, thanks for making it.
@IBNStudios7 ай бұрын
Thanks and no worries haha. Although I was more critical, I do still quite enjoy the Island sequels. I just wish they focused more on the core elements of what made the first game so great rather than lego trying to compete with other games at the time. Lego Island 2 was just trying to be Super Mario 64 while Island Xtreme Stunts was just like any other Extreme Sports game at the time. Still both really fun!

LEGO Island 2 was a major disappointment, but it had a lot of potential. And I'm hoping that if the community remakes these games, they will include the entire trilogy, because I feel like LEGO Island 2 could actually be good with a lot of work, time and passion that wouldn't be possible with heavy development crunch. And I say that because heavy development crunch, was the sole reason why LEGO Island 2 turned out this bad.

I think with the success of those Apple Arcade games, LEGO seems to be heading out of its comfort zone, and opening up to other developers and publishers. I don't know what they have in store with this year, but while last year's game was still money grubbing in the form of a kids game, it at least tried to be it's own thing. And I'm hoping LEGO will continue to produce more varied titles, but without putting it in the hands of greedy publishers after what happened that time.
