I actually already do this sometimes, I didn't know there was a name for it. If there's an easy 2x2 block ill just do that first and track the remaining cross pieces, then if there are any obvious pairs i can solve them, or finish cross if nothing is set up well. It sounds weird, but some of my best times are from that. I figure if i can use inspection time to build a 3x2 block, then it wont be that hard to find and insert the last cross piece after, then you just have 2 pairs to do, and the lookahead is easy with half the f2l done.

Yiheng wang used a similar method in monkey league as it also helps lookahead if you don’t solve the cross fully

Freefop is not a new method, it is kinda of a variation of cfop (however of course it is not offically known as a variation)

Note that this should prob only be used in the situations stated, for any old scram I'm guessing it nerfs lookahead

I tried the scramble with just spammy cfop. Got a 9.89 with a stupidly locky pll and pausy cross. Oll skip tho. Freefop took 12s... Maybe I'm not used to it?

@@preppyquail88962 basically ben baron sometimes does his cross where 2 cross pieces are swapped oppositely and so you have to do M2 U2 M2 to fix it after, usually after OLL thats why its called ben cross
