Tutorial: • *EASIEST way* to solve...
Are you struggling with F2L but acing the beginner’s method? Let me introduce: Zeta-slotting. I came up with this new way of doing F2L, it combines the idea of F2L and the simplicity of the beginner’s method. This way of doing F2L is so simple, anyone can learn Zeta-slotting in 5 minutes, and with a bit of practice, become a SUB-20 SOLVER!! In this video, I will compare Zeta-slotting to other methods, explain why it’s so good and analyze the specs.

I believe this is a great step in between since once he gets good at this method he will already know 3 cases of F2L so less for him to learn down the road when he is ready and this should speed up his current beginner method. Funnily enough, keyholing is a building block to pseudoslotting, both of which are used extensively even at sub 10 speeds! Especially for pairs 1-3, since you have an empty slot it may be more ergonomic and efficient to use a keyhole (only to solve corners though).

I personally think that you would be better off transitioning straight to regular intuitive cfop f2l from lbl. You will be better in the long run as you won’t need to learn f2l when you reach the limits of this method. I did a ao 50 and found that my times were way less consistent and about 10-12 seconds slower than cfop. My best single was about 22 seconds and I average about 17 using cfop. I found myself using regular f2l for the last edge to cut down on moves and I found it was much easier to lose pieces when solving. The only advantage I had over cfop was that I had eo done about 50% of solves for OLL. This is definitely a viable method if you don’t want to keep improving in the long run but I do think you are better off learning cfop when you reach a 40-50 second average using lbl

I've been practicing just getting the edge and corner into their spots but not necessarily in the right orientation. And then solve them from there. When I am comfortable with that, I will move on to more f2l cases, and expand my algorithm library. The method I'm using now, is not faster than the beginner method, but it's my way of actually getting enough practice with the case.

When I bought the HOW TO SOLVE the Rubik’s cube in the 80s it was solving the top portion then the middle layer easy as pie. Then the bottom had several contingency options for getting the corners and edges. The fastest I could EVER do it was about 3 minutes but consistently around 5 minutes ❤I was very happy. I DO NOT HAVE THE MIND it takes to actually solve the cube. I can’t spatially understand the geometry of it. I can memorize patterns and duplicate them but I can’t think them up like these New Kids on the block today. Damn they are smart but careful not to show it

I appreciate your dedication to not only make a method but to also put a tutorial online. You explain your method very well and it's certainly a good video, however, as harsh as it sounds, I don't think zeta slotting is particularly useful. It certainly is easier to learn than full f2l and you're correct about lookahead being easier. However, lookahead being easier doesnt make up for the larger move count and worse ergonomics. The recognition of moving the edges to the correct face and eventually taking all the corners put of the bottom layer later is tedious and awkward. There are ways to make this faster, but they're more advanced and require better lookahead, which you would develop learning regular f2l. Furthermore once cubers get to the stage where learning f2l is important, they're probably going to be cubing for an extended period of time where learning full f2l will be way more important in the long run and it will slowly develop over time. After testing myself (I average around 12-14 seconds if thats important), it doesnt seem much better than simply keyholing all the corners and edges which would lower the movecount quite a bit. And of course, this is simply my opinion, im not a world-class cuber and i could be missing something that you have seen so i'd probably take my words with a grain of salt. And just to reiterate, this is a very well made video and i hope you try to do more like this in the future, this one was unfortunately not a hit. If you genuinely disagree with me and have reasons to believe so, I'm more than happy to discuss it and see your perspective

This seems similar to a method I've seen before called (going by the comments) keyholing. One thought I had was that it's easier to get the corners back down onto the white layer if you leave the last L2 edge out of it, and put it back just before the last corner is placed, or even after. I'm a beginner so take my comments with a grain of salt but that's the feeling I got following this tutorial.

There is a problem in the method where the corner separation actually does not separate corners into two layers If you have 4 white corners and you insert the last middle layer edge using a 3 move trigger, a white corner is bound to end up in the bottom layer, it just so happens that in your example the white corner ends up being solved If the white corner is not the corresponding corner for the edge then it's still fine since it will be kicked out later when that edge is paired , but if it is the right corner and not twisted properly you would end up with a twisted corner in slot, which is not addressed in this method So you would have to either add 2 more algs or change the way you do last edge (but you'd have to be careful with how you introduce pairing - if it's too similar to beginner F2L they might as well just learn that) From a more fundamental standpoint, F2L in CFOP is an essential step to understanding how pieces move on the cube, especially with the concept of pairing edges and corners together, which this method does not provide, so this would not be great for cubers who really want to get fast For people who just want to get a little bit better they can learn keyhole, which is quite efficient, uses the same edge insertion technique as zeta-slotting, and more intuitive So, not really convinced that this is as game-changing as you say it is

Or you could, like, just learn intuitive CFOP. Yes, maybe technically there's 95 cases, but each case breaks down into smaller sub-triggers that are all intuitive and shift the relative positions/orientations of pieces in useful ways. So you're not really "learning 95 cases" so much as learning how to intuitively make the pieces do what you want. There's only like 4 of these sub-triggers, and they are only *3* moves each, so intuitive FTL wins hands-down there. Your three zeta-slotting cases can be attacked with the same set of sub-triggers, yielding solutions that are identical to yours. So really, you're doing F2L by doing extra work to set up this "belt plus corners on top" situation, and then applying algs to handle the three possible configurations. This is conceptually identical to beginner's method, which has you do extra work to solve the corners, then use algs to handle the different edge orientations. The whole point of learning intuitive F2L is that you don't have to do *any* extra work before forming the pairs. You just form and insert them directly and intuitively. This gets you the lower move-count of "real" CFOP F2L, and also high TPS because you do these sub-triggers *so many times* that you also get really fast at them. I'm all for playing around with different methods, but I don't see any actual benefit to zeta-slotting. It's just a subset of intuitive F2L with some extra steps to force all your pairs to be in the subset of cases that you've chosen to call "zeta-slotting".

Here you take out pieces after solving edges which beginners cant do fast cause some times you take out one piece and another piece goes in. I think we just solve 3 f2l pairs using keyhold method and solve last pair normally. And that is faster than zeta slotting.

It works 99% of times. There is a variable that you will have one bottom piece in the right slot, but with the wrong orientation after solving the rest of the 3 corners. @6:23 if the bottom corner piece (red, blue and white) which is a match for the (blue, red) last piece that you're trying to put in the correct slot so all 2nd layer is solved, is in the wrong orientation, you will have that corner unsolved because that piece ( red, blue and white) will not come up again for you to solve it correctly. On your video ( by luck )you have it in the right orientation, but it by any chance that piece was not lined up correctly as in your video you wouldn't be able to solve it. Keep doing it, and it will happen. Sorry to say but this method DOESN'T WORK ALL THE TIME.

I think that this method isn't worth learning because you can hit a skill cap very easily. Honestly just learn normal advanced f2l, as there are only 77 cases, as well as the fact that they're all very similar to each other. If you learn this and get sub-15, then you skill cap and you can't get any further. Even worse, if you try to switch to f2l later on, then it can be incredibly discouraging, as it will make you appear slower. I think that this can teach you some great concepts such as pseudo-slotting, keyhole, tracking edge pieces in inspection, eo recognition, etc. This is just my take on it, gl on ur cubing journey

full f2l only has 42 cases for last slot?? also it has around 42 percent lower movecount and i dont think it's any slower than edge first. like full f2l, zeta slotting also has bad edges so those cases will not be very fast since you either need to rotate or use FU moves to insert the edge. and once you have inserted the edge, there are 5 unsolved cases, not 3. i dont think this will be the best way to do f2l, since full f2l has lots of advantages, but its not the easiest either because beginners know only a few algorithms, one of them is the sexy move, and beginners method f2l is literally just sexy moves u moves and rotations so it is easier for a beginner

First of all, this is a method for beginners and F2L is in every way better. As I said, this method sits in between The Beginners Method and F2L. Secondly, full f2l, as in no matter where the 2 pieces are, have 94 cases. And as you said, there are bad edges, but if there is a bad edge, you would take it out and put it in again so it’s a good edge, so there are only 3 cases. Thanks for the comment!! ❤️

i know this is just a beginner method and i respect you for spending so much time on this video but just PLEASE just do f2l and dont take lazy shortcuts it is NOT 94 algs since it is so intuitive and half of those cases you never use if you just do a few hundred solves with f2l you could be sub 20 as long as you have good fingertricks if you learn zeta slotting you will just delay learning f2l or get so used to it that you are too scared to learn f2l if you want an easier version of f2l, just follow this flow chart 1. get both pieces in the top layer 2. seperate both pieces 3. pair them into either the split case that can be solved with R U R' or the paired case that can be solved with R U' R' 4. solve it now some tips that i dont see a lot of people follow 1. once you begin to see a case, try and find an efficient way to pair it in just one trigger(triggers are short sequences like R' F R F', F R' F' R, R U R', L' U L, R' U2 R, etc) and if you cant find an easy way to pair it on your own, THEN you look at an alg sheet. trust your instincts. if something looks inefficiant, it probably is. if you are not that experienced and cant see how the pieces interact, i guess you can look at an alg sheet for every case, but i HIGHLY recomend untimed solves. the only other reason to check an alg sheet is if you want some algs from other angles to prevent cube rotations. 2. to avoid cube rotations, look at the edge of the f2l pair. if it is in the top layer, check if the top color matches the front or back. if it does, you can solve it with only R and U move and therefore don't need a rotation(only one exception that I can think of). if it is in the e slice, check if the front color on the edge matches the front or back, and if it does, it can be solved with only R U moves. 3. keep your thumbs on the front and dont regrip throughout the entire case. you can do this with the pinch U move(PLEASE LEARN IT), the push U move(its very situational so only as a last resort), U2 flicks(they stop overworks), and knowing ALL of your fingertricks on both of your hands. if you start your pair with your thumbs not on the front, you are doing it wrong. 4. learn lookahead by turning fast. when you learn cases, you need to turn as fast as you can to help you remember them. this forces you not to think which is very very very importent. Once all of the cases, or at least most of the cases, are in your muscle memory, then you can follow these next few tips, which are about lookahead. 4. SOLVE BACKSLOTS!! if you are trying to do lookahead and you are constantly thinking, "oh, i cant do lookahead because i cant see any pieces," chances are you are always solving into front slots. this is just a bad habit. if you solve backslots, not only will lookahead be EASY, but you will save a bunch of cube rotations. one thing i see when people solve into backslots is they regrip their thumb to be on top, and this is only okay if there are a lot of U moves where you need a tough fingertrick(look at the fingertricks in example solves). one final thing, if you are solving backslots, first of all good job, but second of all you should watch what comes out of that slot. there could be an f2l corner or edge that you couldnt see before. 5. know what is in your top layer. if you know whats in your top layer, you can focus on what is coming in and out of it when you are taking pieces in and out of slots. this is important because the best f2l cases are the ones where both pieces are in the top 6. Finally, LOOK AWAY FROM WHAT YOU ARE CURRENTLY SOLVING its so easy and will make you so much faster. at my first comp i averaged 22 and someone told me this and then i got an 18 SECOND AVERAGE!! 7. turn as slow as you need to. 8. plan your first pair or at least track as much as you can in inspection 9. EDIT: do keyhole. look it up yourself im too tired to explain it is 11 pm i should really go to bed lol if you could feature part of this comment i would apreciate it. i want it to be clear that this is only if all you want is sub 20 and not some magic solution to the hardest step. if you said that multiple times i would be more happy with this video, and it would help more people. but if you label/clickbait it as the BEST AND EASIEST METHOD you might have a few people that fall for it and waste thier time. again, not angry at the video. it is very high quality, in fact, better than mine, the totorial was very clear, and the comparison between beginer method, cfop f2l, and zeta was great. i just wish it was marketed as more of a stepping stone to f2l instead of an alternative. you kind of said it in the begining, but i dont want you saying that it is better lookahead, because cfop has perfect lookahead already if you learn it. since the point of cfop is that you trade movecount for better lookahead and fingertricks, people might think that this could be worth it since its basically the same thing, but you never really said that you were taking the concept much farther than you should.
