This song was actually released in 1976, not '67. That said, that was the song my husband and I danced to at our wedding (in Australia). It's wonderful that Americans are discovering our older Aussie music - all the music I grew up with. You guys over there were so disadvantaged not getting any of our stuff. LRB was a great band. Thanks for allowing me to reminisce.

One of the most underrated bands of all time. They earned the nickname "Australian Eagles" because of their harmonies and melodies. The rabbit hole for this band is long and extensive, and a fun one to go down. "Lonesome Loser", "Reminiscing", "Cool Change", and "Take It Easy on Me" are a good start. Great reaction!

LRB (outside of Australia) is quite possibly the most underrated band from this era and genre! So many great songs from them! In the early 80s they opened up for the Eagles in America… And the Eagles have stated that they admired them and even listened in on their rehearsals for pointers/advice. This song is no doubt a masterpiece… An epic track to say the absolute least! It truly is one of the greatest songs ever recorded… It’s pretty much perfect… And then some!

Glenn Frey from The Eagles publicly admitted he considered LRB as the best vocal band in the world. he said this at the 1988 Brisbane Expo live concert while he was travelling with LRB. LRBs harmonies during every live concert were as good as they were in the studio. A friend of mine was recording in a studio in London while LRB were in the studio next door. They spent the ENTIRE weekend working on the harmonies for one song. THAT is why they were so good.

“I’ll be Home on a Monday” is also track worthy reviewing (similar vibe to Hotel California) - I thing Glen Shorrick is still performing as he had been doing gigs with Russell Morris (if you haven’t listened to some of his work like “The Real Thing” or “Wings of an Eagle” they are a treat) and Jim Keays (Masters Apprentices, another early Aussie band - sadly I think Jim has passed away)

That wouldn't have been the real Little River Band, you played with the Little River Band cover band. The Original members were swindled out of the naming rights of the band by band member Glenn Houseden. The real members were Beeb Beebles, Glenn Shorrock and Grahame Gobles. They released an album as BSG in 2002 but nothing since then.

Whilst LRB had an amazing number of great songs, this is by far my favourite! Love Pink Floyd, so this song, as its title suggests, is a great journey and a treat to listen to, like many from PF❤. ... In 1985 I enjoyed a wonderful yachting holday with friends in the Whitsundays, in northern Queensland. I live in the south, in Melbourne. I documented that holiday with my first video camera. Much to the dismay of the friends, it took to 2020, during our covid lockdown, for me to edit it for presentation to the friends. One of the great songs I used in the soundtrack was "It's a Long Way There". I couldn't have found a better song! ... BTW unfortunately Americans (and many others), due to marketing difficulties, were never exposed to numerous gems from many Aussie artists, especially from the 60s to the 80s!

This song is a masterclass in lead guitar, vocals, recording and engineering. There's a video on YT of a guitarist who plays the entire song to show what was involved. Graham Goble commented on that video and mentioned the guitarist did it in ONE TAKE. BTW, the audio you are listening to sounds like it has some extra processing added for reverb, etc. The original 1975 stereo mix was flawless as it was. I would recommend finding the original and listening to that.

This line-up of the LRB created some very fine music. As you noted, Sebs, they are all master musicians, and those that are still alive I believe are still performing where they can. A shout out to Ric Formosa for his play on lead through this song. I am so glad the band let him noodle throughout the whole song, certainly gave this tune a phenomenal feel. By the way, Ric's lead was the only take for that song.

It didn't get a lot of plays on most radio stations because it was too long. They had more commercially successful songs, but this was hands down their best work.

Amazing debut for a group of men that were considering giving up music. And I maintain there will never be another debut track on a debut album that will top this.

I've always loved Little River Band, but I've never heard this song. It reminds me of CSNY.❤

The reason is simple, in the 70->90's, US radio stations had a glut of great US & UK artists to choose from and only so much air time per day. This made it very difficult to get airtime in the US. Most Australian artists that tried to make it in the US had limited success & came home, or then tried the UK market with a slightly better success rate.

Firefall is another band that needs to be noted. The song Mexico will make you drive too fast. Its basically a guitar lead all the way through with great horns. Also Cinderella is a great tune

I've got this on 7" vinyl...rare back in the day was that they kept the full version on just one side. 1975 by the way.
