But because the DM was so done, suddenly the caster became a sorcerer with the subtle spell metamagic so she misty step out and then complete the teleport requiring all three Spellcasters. At least I was smart enough to grapple the kidnaped as well differently, so they couldn't take him from me. I will still take it as victory 😂

@@torva360 Comes online at lvl 4 (Barb 3, Warlock 1) at the earliest. Lvl 7 for everything they mentioned. (Barb 3, Pact of the Chain Warlock 3, with a 4th level in either for the feat.) I'd go Barb 5 for Extra Attack and then go Warlock the rest of the way for simplicity. I'd also grab a pseudodragon familiar for the shared Magic Resistance because it's funny.

Maybe, if they had tied you up with literally your own 50ft of rope you could try to argue it would still be tied to them. Not with Misty Step though. Read the spell.

Spells need an unobstructed path to work. There are some like Sacred Flame that lets you "override" that limitation ("The target gains no benefit from cover for this saving throw."), so unless the spell specifically says it can be casted through stuff or doesn't (per RAI) need it, you can't even cast a bloody fireball through a millimeter thick clear glass.

This is why I like Aberrant Mind. Once they get to a certain level, and with the right spell picks. They can functionally participate in an entire battle from this position (gagged, blindfolded, arms/legs bound). On top of this, people around them would be none the wiser, as long as they don't use a spell that visibly radiates or shoots out from them. This is because their 6th level feature removes all components, including material components that are not consumed. So while their expanded list's replacement options aren't as good or as expansive as clockwork soul. They do allow for them to gain sight through spells like clairvoyance or Arcane eye, which opens up targeting for any spells that require sight. (Not all do) On top of this, that same 6th level feature allows them to use these sorcery points at a better cost ratio for their expanded spell list. So they can burn lower level spells to synaptic static over and over again, until everyone is dead.

As a homebrew item that a previous player came up with, I have been using a homebrew 10gp item known as "Spellcaster Protocol" in all of my campaigns. The kit comes with a blindfold, arm and leg restraints, and a gag so you can be absolutely certain Spellcasters cannot do anything

If bound with hands behind you then you cannot see your shackles and cannot move to do so. This means you cannot cast Knock since you cannot see the shackles. Ghostly Gaze only lets you see through objects not creatures, so that wont let you see the shackles either. So, knock is very easily prevented.

The closest magical effect is Antimagic Field, which is an 8th level spell. Logic of creating magic items tells us that only people that are nearly at the pinnacle of mortal magic would be capable of creating them. Sure, a medium sized kingdom would have resources to order a pair of them or two, but that's a maximum. Economically, it's much more cost effective to keep your prisoners drugged and unconscious. And unlike the manacles, it's accessible in every one of your prisons, not only the one in your castle.

While a different method, I can see my hexblade escaping just fine as well. (Assuming it's not anti magic, only ropes are used, and that he has some sort of seeable gap to the outside world. First he performs a 1-hour ritual to break the bond with his pact weapon, freeing him up to summon whatever weapon he needs to cut himself free (either a dagger or sickle) and after that all he needs is that seeable way to the outside world then he can thunderstep his way out and fly away. Subtle? No(unless the room is sound proof). Possible? Yes

I gave my player a homebrew wand of wild magic, and another player had been swallowed by a purple wurm and it was getting away with its dinner, so the wildmagic wand wielder activated it turning every creature but him invisible, and since the wurm was now invisible the one trapped inside was able to misty step out and it was a really cool coincidental moment of accidental teamwork lol

When I did this I had the captors cut the character's tongue out. It was supposed to be a brief rescue mission to kick off a story thread. They still managed to escape before the rescuers got there.

this reminded me a pathfinder game, a group of enemy's knock me prone into the ground, with more incoming, and they hit hard but I was a time oracle, I time hop to teleport away as a move action without triggering AOO, and then from prone I just cast warp metal to debuff them DM was catch by surprise by me just casting while prone

I had a character that was a common forest slime granted intelligence by a wild magic storm. We routinely got captured and anti magic manacles were common. Every time I was under the effects of antimagic until we escaped I had to make intelligence saving throws every hour or become feral again until we leave.
