I am an Iraqi and I always want to cry hearing this story again and again Iraqi people are strong, smart and most important trait they are relentless. Iraqi people just want to be happy Iraqi people just want to see their country reach the potential that the country have in all aspects Sadly it won't happen because other countries need Iraq to be miserable place but remember there always a silver lining maybe not in my lifetime or my son's lifetime but that's the meaning of living right? We live to to give and share our stories, thoughts and hopes to our offspring hoping one day they can carry the torch and maybe one day the world will know the story of Iraq as a winners because history isn't kind to losers.

Did you know they had already bought tickets to head back home, because they were facing vietnam in quarter finals, because they had 0 hope to win against Vietnam In thier country with thier fans.. and they don't have the to buy tickets after they lose .. that's why they buy them early for cheaper prices. I have to mention that some Iraqi players had to pay a part of the tickets too the national team didn't have enough money :( But after the miracle happend and they won against Vietnam they changed the travel time because they also had 0 hope to win against South Korea. But the unbelievable happened as they won.. they played with full confidence and hope to win against Saudi Arabia in the final... Wow this gives me goosebumps when remembering it

Oh thank you soooo much for brought this old memories to me 2007, I was 5th grade elementary student at the city of Malang, East Java, Indonesia. In our school, there are 2 classes for each grade and at the 5th grade we have about 18 boys who loves playing football. Watching Asian Cup at our home soil is a fascinating experince to kids like us (yeah 2007 Asian Cup was held on 4 countries in SE Asia), and of course we love to see our national team at the biggest stage in Asia with players like Bambang Pamungkas, Elie Aiboy, and so on. Our Garuda are lose against Saudi Arabia with goal in stoppage time, and since that day my other 17 friends are support Saudi. "Of course they will the champion". Except me. When my friend ask me which nation who will be the champion, I answered Iraq. When I wrote this I still able to remember the way they laughing at me that time wkwkwkw I miss you my friend Why Iraq? It was coincidence watching at TV but then I was mezmerize by the way they play when against Australia. It was the first time of my live I seen such a spartan team. Noor Sabri the goalkeeper with tremendous save, Hawar Mulla with the pinpoint pass, and of course the one leader Younis Mahmoud. I even still remember his full name, Younis Mahmoud Khalaf. Since that moment, I love watching Iraq at the 2007 Asian Cup and root for them as champion And then the Final match versus Saudi, it was like the 16 boys at my school against me and one of my friend named Asep (which I can make him changing side to support Iraq 😂). "tonight is gonna be Saudi's night", said one of my friend. I come home and watching at my family tv. The final match was so intens and when Younis scores that goal, I literally jumped of soooo happily. The final whistle comes and I still remember their celebration. And then the next morning at school, me and Asep are can't stop talking about that final which literally blows our mind at that time 2024, now I am 25 years of age continuing my college in Jakarta. When I come over to the Gelora Bung Karno Stadium (the final was held here at that time), let me tell you this memories are always passing by. Although I watch all the match was only by tv, and I am not even Iraqi, these are one of the best moments in my childhood memories Ahh maybe I was talking too much. Hey DMaC, once again thanks for brought this video ❤❤

As Indonesian, I remembered supporting Iraq at the final. The match was held in Indonesia and despite the strong relationship with Saudi, most Indonesians were supporting Iraq at that time. Knowing that winning the cup would bring joy to the Iraqian at that time...

Well, from what i remember, most of us Indonesian supported Iraq in that final match, because we were a bit annoyed towards Saudi after Indonesia vs Saudi in group match..

Thank you for this powerful video. I am Iraqi and let me add one more point to what you have said; in fact this winning considers one of the events that ended the civil war in Iraq. In the time when the country was divided, the football brought them together. When Iraq won the last game, everybody went down to the streets and celebrated without asking from which group you are. After years of killing each others, for the first time Iraqis came together. In this way, we understood that we can live together without killing each other. That is why we love football in Iraq.

I am truly Iraqi. I am happy with your words about Iraq and the national team and this match. I was there a day or two ago, but there is a feeling inside me that it is connected to my soul. When I remember that we won the Asian Cup, my eyes bring tears to my eyes, and on the most difficult days I truly feel goosebumps. It was a beautiful day for the Iraqis, and thanks be to God, now Iraq is stable and the national team is stable. The Iraqi is 56 globally. Perhaps it is not a good number for some countries that have good capabilities, but we are very satisfied in this position and we have always dreamed of it, and here we are now going to the World Cup and the country is safe in all aspects. ❤
