I appreciate that when viewed out of context from the actual ride and a day out at a theme park, it definitely comes across as really cheesy and nonsensical. But back in the 90s this really was cutting edge stuff for a theme park attraction and it really held up for a great many years. Yes, plot-wise it makes no sense canonically but when you're actually sat there with all the bells and whistles going off you honestly don't care.
