This was a great game and the true pioneer for gyro aiming for me.

I actually didn't even realize there was gyro aiming until the final minutes of the game. I guess I just held my Vita upright all the time so I didn't even notice.

we NEED a ps5 remaster/remake (maybe a Nathan drake collection 2 w/ u4 and lost legacy as well)

Man, this should have been included in the Uncharted PS4 collection
@TheRealDJANGOVIC4 жыл бұрын
It really should have. With just a couple of tweaks to gameplay it could have played perfectly on the PS4. And when it comes to graphics, it's not like they couldn't reuse 90% assets they remastered for the other 3 games.

I remember hearing somewhere that the section in which you have to hold your Vita under a lamp was such a nerve wrecking feature to adapt for the developers at BluePoint, that they decided they wouldn’t even try it and just focus on the PS3 games. Which would be a shame if that was the case, given that the touchpad and gyroscope on the DS4 pretty much cover 90% of the vita gimmicks implemented on Golden Abyss.

This game is the shit, imo even more enjoyable than Drake’s Fortune, Dante was a solid villain and Guerro was pretty okay given the standards of not only the franchise, but this sub-genre in general. Marissa filled her role very well and was a very fun companion as well. It felt like you were playing a PS3 on the go, and that overshadows any con that people can argue this game has. The story is surprisingly one of the aspects I’ve seen being the most praised and I can agree, although not perfect by any means, it delivers a pretty elaborated plot with the Sete Cidades cult and the backstabbing among the conquistadors in Coronado’s expeditions which keeps you really engaged. It also was the first Uncharted game to not feature supernatural elements in it, which was a pretty risky move that Bend Studio pulled off and Naughty Dog would later emulate on U4 and Lost Legacy. Easily my favorite game on the system and the best one imo, really showed what the Vita could do and unfortunately never got the chance to fully exploit. Yeah I love this game, thanks for the awesome review I’m now subscribed.

Hey thanks for the kind words and sub! The fact that this game didn't have any supernatural elements completely eluded me, but I'm so glad it didn't. Easily the worst part of Uncharted 1 and 2. 3 I could live with, since that was more like a hallucination.

DJANGOVIC the Supernatural elements always caught me off guard first, but ended up growing on me a lot. A pity that once I started to love them, ND started to remove them from the next games xD Hope they bring those back if they ever continue the series, I mean it’s nice to not have them sometimes for the sake of variety, but I feel like something from the essence is missing with their absence.

the Quivirian corpses would've been excellent monsters imo, although fighting them would've probably felt like the skeletons on the Scarecrow melee maps from Arkham Asylum.

it doesn't help that the spanish language stuff is god-awful. for example, that one "Wanted" poster which was translated to "Queroa" (???). they probably just wanted it to say "quiero a" which still doesn't make sense, they should've just put "se busca". hell, even the name "Guerro" is all wrong, he should've been called "Guerrero" which is not only spanish for "warrior" but is also an actual surname. this all probably makes it sound like I hate the game but I actually loved it lol, it's just that as a spanish speaking person myself, those kinds of mistakes are a pet peeve of mine.

I can’t believe Sony hasn’t ported this game to home consoles. They’d make some pretty good money as I’m sure most fans of the series have never played this game.

My biggest problem with this game is the gimmicks it used. The swiping quick time stuff got annoying quick. The rubbings and puzzles were a little weird too. In terms of gameplay and story it’s on par with the others. It really should’ve been on the ND collection. Everyone would love more Nate and Sully

I would say that Golden Abyss is closer in quality to Uncharted 2 than Uncharted 1, with better shooting (analog aiming + gyroscopic aim-adjustment = the closest thing the series has to mouse aiming) and a far better villain (not the general, who arguably is still a bit better than the villains in the first two Uncharted games, but Dante, who had a New Jersey accent, and who is waaaaaay better than any of the villains in those two games) than either. Plus, I liked Chase better than Elena since she has an actual arc between not knowing how to shoot a gun/not wanting to kill people to bring able and willing to kill people in self-defense and to protect others. I also really enjoyed that the story didn't feel the need to put in any magical macguffin, but was still able to convert a sense of urgency and danger using relatively mundane threats. Also, while they did overload the touchscreen gimmicks, the quick time event boss battles is pretty much more of an Uncharted staple than something unique to Golden Abyss and I would argue that the swiping isn't much more disruptive to the game's flow than the way melee combat was handled in the original 2 Uncharted games. I agree with you on the benefits of swipe based climbing being an option, though, since it helped alleviate the console installments tendency to make it difficult to tell the difference between climbable ledges and the background or have the camera angles make it a bit confusing as to which direction you should be tilting the analog stick in order to target a specific ledge (leading to you making Drake suddenly decide to leap to his death when you make that sort of mistake); now, you just swipe along the path you want Drake to take and he'll go there if it's possible or go as far as he can without committing suicide if it's not.
