Oogie's Revenge was about Oogie Boogie trying to be the king of the seven holidays by kidnapping the seven holiday kings, not replacing other people's brains. He only replaced Finklestein's brain. Also, while Jack was bored of doing the same thing, he was ultimately looking for new ways to scare people which explains why he was away for a while. The doctor gave Jack the Soul Robber to help him with his new scare predicament.

None of the flaws can really match the positives especially when graded on a curve, level design leaves much to be desired but that's been a problem throughout the entire series for example, and length especially when considering the amount of reused assets for levels, that's the only flaw I really can't defend with the curve as even compared to 1-3 which aren't the longest games ever 4 still comes up short.

Weirdly though having played DMC and God Of War I feel like the Soul Robber and combo system are more reminiscent of God Of War having ranged whip like main weapons and a pure hit based combo scoring as opposed to the variety based style meter. It rips the end level scoring system right out of DMC and the world exploration kinda reminds me more of Mallet Island from DMC one than anything else but the moment to moment combat feels much more God of War esque, to me.

@LoliconSamalik3 жыл бұрын
The "clones" are simply called "Character action" or "Spectacle Fighters". Or just Hack n Slash. There's almost nothing DMC about them in the long run after you pick up the controller. The ones that actively involve being stylish and creative with combos and mix-ups (like Assault Spy) are called "Style Action", since it's all about playing as hyper expressive characters that impress the Style meter, that is in turn actively trying to get you to play more like the actual character. These kind of games turn combos into an artform in their own right, if combo MADs are anything to go by. Unfortunately, true Style Action games not made by Capcom or Platinum are very rare and you typically end up with bootleg feeling games that don't actually get it, like most games in this video.
@crowzine74763 жыл бұрын
@@LoliconSamalik Damn, I forgot about character action. They are barely mentioned that it doesnt feel real. I see DMC are a game worth to copy. Because it focuses on fun and combat freedom. I didn't really meant these clones, I made the comments not even halfway through the video. What I meant are games like assault spy that embraces the DMC stylish elements. DMC isn't about beating the game, but beating yourself and finding a way to make it more fun. Simple Hack and Slash just told you to defeat the boss complete the game, like what shown in some of the games in the vids. It doesnt really give you freedom on how to do it. Souls and souls-like game only give you superficial reward for beating ridicilously hard enemies but gets lots of clones, which still loved by many anyway. It punishes you for just being a casual player in a single player game. You can be just a casual player and have fun in DMC. And it's really disappointing that AAA games that truly rival DMC are games made by The Studio founded by Original DMC designer. And it's funny how they keep copying each other like they still in the same team.

There are at least two more DMC-clones I can think of and they're Legacy of Kain: Defiance and El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron.
@Casketkrusher_3 жыл бұрын
Defiance only used the same fighting mechanics, overall it's a completely different game with a story that's 10 times deeper that anything DMC came up with. Calling that a clone is a freaking joke.

Dude. I remember seeing Bujingai Forsaken City being covered in PS2 Magazine back in the day and the art style and characters completely captivated me. I know people are saying Jack's Soul Robber was the precursor to Nero's Devil Bringer but... Let's not forget that it was also basically a homage to Jacque (Jean Reno's character from Onimusha 3) and his awesome whip from that game.

As someone who HAS seen Hugh Jackman's Van Helsing, I can confirm that it is quite underrated. It may not be award worthy, but it is fun, intelligently written, well acted, and has pretty solid character designs and visual effects. It's a little campy, but that seems to be intentional as it goes out of its way to pay homage to old black and white Universal monster movies in a respectful but self-aware manner, that ironically handled a shared universe idea much better than any of the Dark Universe movies that tried to mimic the MCU intentionally a decade later. And it's werewolves looked ten times better than anything in the Underworld franchise, even the films that came out well after it. Also, one of my favorite movie soundtracks of all time.

If I had a nickel for every licensed hack & slash game based on a Hugh Jackman film that happened to be better than it's source material, I'd have two nickels. Which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it happened twice.

If i had a nickel for every time a movie tie in game for a movie starring hugh Jackman was better than the movie itself, id have 2 nickels. Which is a lot considering the implications.

Hi Austin, I recommend the Castlevania lament of innocence on ps2, straight up DMC clone for a sequel to this, ur welcome :) Also I played bujingai alot back in the day, didnt know or care who gact was then , till I heard the story he single handedly got new fist of the north star made and kept ff7 going. videos on review sites made it look alot like the shinobi ps2 revival which I also really enjoyed, I digged those early 2000s action platformers they were great, thanks for shining a light on it! :) Also van helsing is an awesome movie, basically the closest we got to live action Castlevania, give it a watch it's alot of fun, it's probably the best plot I have ever seen that convincingly combines Dracula, Frankenstein's monster and the wolf man into one thing, and they threw Mr Hyde in there to boot and Dracula's brides and it all works very well, personally I like it better than the mummy movies.
