The bunkers are down Station Road in Barton, spent many happy hours as a kid playing around them. We were told they were air raid shelters for the land army though !

Hi Gary, and I hope that you found the video interesting. It was good to get out with the camera again and hopefully I'll be able to get out a bit more over the next few weeks as I have a number of ideas for a couple of videos. Hope you and yours are keeping well, enjoy the rest of your evening/day and all the best. 👍

Absolutely brilliant, since I found you a couple of weeks ago I'm hooked can't stop watching. I love history, but to think most of what you show is on my doorstep is unreal. I've been passed so many of these areas, and never seen them. But I will certainly look out for them now. Many thanks, and keep up the great videos. Del 👍

Hi Del, glad to hear that you have enjoyed this and some of my other videos after recently discovering my channel. 👍 Yes it's suprising what's all around us history wise and the stories behind some of the things that we pass by every day and just when I think I've run out of things to document locally something else pops up. Anyway many thanks for taking the time to comment and welcome aboard.

@@MrHsHotPot You are doing an amazing job, so keep them coming. I'm currently going through your back catalogue of vids, so it will keep me going for a while. Can I ask, would you be able to give me the name of the Rd to this location, so I can check them out myself?. No problem if you can't, I understand. Thank you. 👍
@MrHsHotPot2 жыл бұрын
@@LandmarkAerialDronePhotography Sure no problem, if you want to check out these pillboxes for yourself then they can be found where 'Gorsey Lane' meets 'Station Road' in a tiny place called 'Barton' in the Downholland area but you'll find it easier if you are using Google Maps by typing in 'Barton, Ormskirk'. Hope this helps and thanks for the words of encouragement. 👍

Hi Stephen, glad to hear that you enjoyed the video. 👍 These two WW2 era pillboxes were a really nice find as besides being in excellent condition they are also a little bit unusual being formerly attached to an airfield. Hopefully I'll be out and about again very soon until then take care and all the best.

In the 60s we knew as Burcough aerodrome and on some weekends we would see how fast we could get up to on our motorbikes There is a two story pill box next to the canal at Heatons bridge .
@MrHsHotPot2 жыл бұрын
Hi Mick, the area is still known as 'Burscough Aerodrome' on Google Earth and the name is still used when advertising and directing people to the regular car boot sale held there each sunday. It's nice that they have named the retail park that has sprung up on the site 'Ringtail' as a casual nod to it's history although I doubt many shoppers and the people sat outside of Booths sipping overpriced coffee are aware of the names origins. Funnily enough have visited the pub at Heatons Bridge who's name escapes me at the moment once a few years back where the double storey pillbox is that you mention but I never saw it due to it being built of brick and blending in so well with it's surroundings and not immediately jumping out at you.

Where you filmed in Formby is about a mile or two from RAF Woodvale which during the war was used for the defense of nearby liverpool. I think it was a Polish squadron. Today its just used for training cadets to fly

Hi Phil, and thanks for the info as I wasn't aware of that. 👍 Having looked it up on Google Street View despite the bright yellow paint job you can clearly see what the building once was. Good to see that not all the buildings from the airfield were demolished and some were repurposed.

Hello Mr H, can i please ask, do you ever get challenged by landowners about trespass?.
@MrHsHotPot2 жыл бұрын
Hi JohnBoy Cash, I've only ever been challenged by a landowner once when I was on holiday in Lincolnshire and was funnily enough exploring some hexagonal pillboxes at the edge of a farmers field and had strayed off the public footpath crossing his land to get to them. Basically I just acted numb when challenged whilst stating that I didn't realise that I had strayed away from the public footpath and offered to leave immediately (which is what the law states you must do) apologising for any inconvience caused. At the end of the day you cannot be arrested or taken to court for trespassing in England & Wales only for any loss or damage caused during the trespass which is another reason why I stick to the edge of a farmers field and make a point of not walking on crops in my videos as besides it not being on doing this it could also be classed as a form of loss or damage against the landowner.

i remember the control there , does anyone else
@MrHsHotPot2 жыл бұрын
Wasn't the control tower demolished sometime in the early noughties? Apparantly there was a campaign to try and get it listed to save it from the wrecking ball but this ultimately failed as the idea didn't fit in with the developers plans. However some original hangers and small out buildings still stand on parts of the site that have been returned back to farmland although these are now inaccessible for obvious reasons and it makes you wonder what small structures such as pillboxes etc. have been left behind on the fringes of the nearby Burtonwood site after it closed in 1991 and started to be redeveloped.
