I feel like the calculation and power feelings are deeply entwined and you can't have power without calculation and upping your game. The more you play the more the game pushes you to be better, do more combos, use more of your arsenal in an efficient way and I don't think you can just forget about all that once you feel you're powerful or whatever. It's always an uphill battle of getting better and making better calculated and elegant plays.

I tried to convey that a bit when describing power as the culmination of feelings. In which you get the benefits of calculation without any of the downsides that come in playing slower.

Ultrakill's ability to jump from genre to genre doing 720s and kickflips is honestly just astounding, I genuinely thought 6-1 was gonna be another spooky dark place but GOOD FUCKING GOD that drop was insane. The secret levels are another calm section of the game that just lets you fuck around (except for 4-S fuck that shit) instead of the normal combat. It's amazing how Ultrakill is able to avoid genre whiplash from doing all these things, probably because they just reuse mechanics already in the game (light usage in 0-S, terminal interaction in 1-S, text dialogue in 2-S, and platforming in 4-S).

Great video on the topic of ULTRAKILL. I believe the "Power" feeling is also connected to the "Zen" feeling one feels when blazing through levels one has already played many times? As this game has a lot of replay value with just how varied the gameplay is despite the few tools one gets.

I am utterly fascinated by every ULTRAKILL player's playstyle, particularly in level 4-2. I loved using ricoshots on that level, the guide I followed for a P-rank went with the charged pistol, this video favors the nailgun. The creativity this game offers is truly beautiful.

5:32 there is tho a few objective "incorect" choices in the game, though they are few and far between, the marice (malicious face) is immune to explosions along with soldiers (pepsi man mofos) being immune to non red explosions tho tbh i think act 2 came out after you made the video (i forgor the day) none the less great video

I think having explosion proof enemies is great for the game. You should not be able to just pboost over and over to kill everything. Forcing a strategy mixup on the fly can make encounters a lot more dynamic

honestly im happy to know im not the only one to use or need aim assist im really bad at aiming in frantic FPS games, let alone FPS games in general auto aim has helped me find weak points of certain enemies as well, since like the coins, it automatically locks onto a visible weak point

For sure the script needed work, the video was actually originally going to be much longer but I decided to cut it down it ended up with a bit of an identity crisis in the video. Thankfully I came out with good ideas in regards to future videos and the form of them.

After watching this video and comparing these feelings to how I feel when I play, I'm pretty sure there's a definitive wrong way to play the game. I go in with the intent to try and progress through the levels, but not the skills to proceed. So when it gets to the 'panic' point, I'm not stressing about failure - If I get to low enough HP, I either get the HP back or often I just die. This leads me to stubborness, to banging my head against the wall over and over again until I pass through sheer tenacity. I know I can't aim, so I lock myself out of certain weapons that would just waste time if I used them: Most notably, the coin revolver. I fall back on ol' reliables, even if the situation does not match the usecase. These are shotgun, fist shotgun, rarely parry, nailgun, and very rarely explosive. I do not calculate when I play - Style is beyond my play when I'm already struggling to play the game at its most basic. The previous lack of weapon variety also denies my use of style, and thus consideration of style. This is the part where I start feeling despair, however, as I start comparing my unskilled, lackluster gameplay to others, who can aim. As I continue to play, to progress, all I can feel next is depression. I can't play good, I struggle, I don't succeed so much as fail until I scrape by with a pass. There are no feelings of power when I haven't earned the right to think that way. As you said, the limit is the player. I don't know the flow of combat, I don't know the weapon synergies, and I'm not having fun in the increasing slog of work that the game demands I complete in order to progress to the next area, the next level, the next room. This is where I feel frustration but, much more acutely, sadness that I can't play the way I want to and succeed and feel happy. I want to do stupid little things, like parry Swordsmachine to death while standing in one spot - Which I did after about... 6 cumulative hours over a few days, I think. That, and skipping the rest of the level to the first statue boss fight simply because I wanted to see how far outside the normal play area the game would let me go, are about the only times I felt happy while playing. Otherwise, I work to the point of tears and then quit.

I highly suggest switching the revolver alternate for the coin back into the regular one because the split shot with the regular hits multiple enemies while the regular one only hits one. If you have them both equipped you can use both of them

wut. But some additional information: The Alt Marksman Revolver, while not being able to splitshot, can instead penetrate/hit an enemy multiple times on the coin flash and sing. So imagine hitting Cerberus like 7 times or some shit with a couple coins, or 3 times with a single one; it’s like a package deal. I don’t use the Alt Marksman very much, but that’s what HerbMessiah said so anything he said is pretty much the word of god.

I love the video, but please for the love of god unequip the slab marksman, and turn off the auto aim. The auto aim is just slowing your progress for getting better at aiming, and the slab marksman can't split shot, and has a lower dps.
