Pre-tribulation rapture was introduced by John Nelson Darby in 1833, and a few men before him, but Darby lectured on his interpretation at least 11 times in England and Ireland, where he maligned specific verses and passages. Darby's contempory, Charles Spurgeon called it "heresy." It was not accepted in America until the Scoffield Bible was published in 1909, and it spread like a fire.
