So, true but I can only speculate if WCW had signed Tully to a New contract in 1989 in 1990, we would have had Ric, Tully, Arn and Ole, we were only lacking James J. Dillon then.

Summer of '86... I was 16, had just got my drivers license, Van Halen's 5150 was out, Top Gun was in theaters, and the Great American Bash was in full swing. LIFE.... WAS..... GOOD!! So for me, it's the original lineup as the best. It was an off the cuff remark by Arn Anderson which he said "You got 4 guys here, that when we come to town, we cause more mayhem and carnage than the 4 horsemen of the apocalypse"

Flair has said that the two guys who had no business being Horsemen were Sid Vicious and Paul Roma. Flair also admitted he had no say in those two becoming Horsemen. He was kind when speaking of Roma as an individual wrestler. But that incident between Vicious and Arn Anderson caused Flair to literally never say another word to Vicious, ever again.

Short lived, but a powerhouse team. Arn and Tully, World Tag Champs. Barry was the U.S. Champ. Flair was the World Champ. One of the few times every member held major gold. And that is the main reason that lineup is viewed as the best. Prior to and after, there was normally at least one person without a major title. First line up, Ric hat the World title, Tully had the US title, and Arn had the TV title. Ole had none. But the TV was always considered a mid-card title.

For me, it's gotta be anytime between 85 and 88. Flair, Blanchard, the Anderson's, Luger, and Windham. The matches, the storylines, everything was tremendous. When Arn and Tully left, that's when that particular "Horseman Moment" came to an end. Other versions were good, but we're never the full guiding force in the NWA/WCW as the 85-88 incarnation.

What we got of them was really good, and you can also easily see the potential the group would have had in the future, with Ric and Arn representing the old classy traditions of the group, while Pillman and Benoit were the new blood, while still feeling like potential top guys. But the thing is, we really didn't see much of this group, so it's really easy to get caught up in wishful what-if scenarios, only imagining the best possible outcome. And fact is, Pillman left WCW, and even if he had stayed, NWO was founded shortly after and all of attention quickly switched to them. So I find it hard to believe that faction with them could have done as well as everybody hopes for.

@@baconatorrodriguez4651 I wouldn't call it cowardly but rather appreciative of where he would be heading in WCW (or rather not be heading). It took Benoit much longer to figure that out (but then again, Benoit was not as big as Pillman was at the time). Either wrestler (and many others, Steve Austin included) went exactly nowhere with Hogan on top, regardless of whether he wore yellow or black. Pilmann would have been trashed like the other Horseman had been stuck around to face the nWo.

I really appreciated this episode. I was a young Warrior stan who didn't know WCW existed when the Horsemen were doing their thing, and didn't fully get into pro wrestling until my teens during the attitude era. My only experience with the Four Horsemen was seeing Benoit and Malenko in the group when I would flip between WWF and WCW, and I always wondered about their history that they always claimed was so rich. This video fills a void in my perspective and I thank you for that.

Nice one, very well done. I think of what could have been - at one point the Midnight Express would join, Cornette would be a fulltime announcer and who knows. I think the Dangerous Alliance is very underrated and wasn't given enough time.

Interesting that you would drop this video now, as the Bloodline stuff that WWE is doing right now reminds me a lot of some OG 4 Horsemen stuff from the 80s.

ohh yes you have to do a horseman series. absolutely love them. my fave incarnations are the 1st with ole and them the mongo malenko flair and benoit. you could do each incarnation as a video with a more indepth bio and match highlights. you could also do a dangerous alliance video aswell.

Great video! Took me down memory lane. The first iteration I got to experience watching as a 10 year old fan was in 1990 Flair Arn Barry and Sid.

Great stuff! Long Live the Horsemen. The end was messy and there were many mehhh versions but beside the obvious what I call original (Flair/Tully & Anderson’s) my fave version was the short lived late 95/early 96 version with Flair/Arn the old school guys and new school with Pillman & Benoit.

I actually liked the version with Mongo and I think that may have been my favorite version. The role the Horsemen played in the Nitro years is underappreciated. They got a ton of air time and were a big part of many angles during a time when the company was soaring in popularity and had huge ratings. The horsemen played a role in the popularity of Nitro and it often isn't appreciated enough. I liked how they were tweeners who could go either heel or babyface depending on the arena and the opponents. This made for more interesting storytelling than the era when they were booked as pure evil. It was fun watching them work babyface against the Dungeon of Doom or the NWO when they were in the Carolinas, but then be heels in other situations.

minute 30 in, and I think you should totally do a Horseman video series! Maybe do it when you finish the Monday Night Wars, maybe do it in between to space out your videos in you're interested, but as a fan of the 4 Horsemen from the Monday Night Wars, (Flair, Anderson, Benoit, Malenko, and (to a much lesser extent) Mongo, I would love to see a full historical series on this, bc I've been buying/watching every media form I can about them given their history, I know I'm missing stuff from way back when, so watching a full history with suggested matches along the way would be areal treat..
