I don't known if they function in similar way but (as far as im aware)the 4 horseman (5 but 5th was sort of forgotten and went off to be a milkman) in the discworld series (also written by Terry Pratchett) are influenced by the living, people imagined them as people shaped so people shaped they became, their thoughts and behaviour influenced by their people shape.

The Horsemen in the "Good Omens" are more akin to their traditional versions - the main difference, is that Pestilence retired (when penicillin was discovered) and their job was taken over by Pollution. Beyond that they also have their own everyday lifes, that they endulge in as they wait for Armagedon. They aren't really good or evil - they just are. Death is the only "natural" force of all of them, which is why he acts as their Leader and the one who keeps the rest in check. Also on a side-note: Conquest wasn't exactly forgotten, as much as a lot of cultures just recognize him and the Horseman of Pestilence as the same being.

You do know Pestilence is epidemic diseases, infection, viruses, plagues and sickness? Not sure how bug 🪲 🪳 🐜 spray would end Pestilence, seeing as most cause cancers which would actually empower him even more... In the show (Good Omen), Pestilence willingly retired because antibiotics were invented as well as other advanced medical discoveries but as a result pollution which was never seen in the ancient world came into being, and Pestilence passed the Horseman's mantle to her (but pollution & pestilence goes directly hand in hand, seeing as both create & lends aid to each other...)
