I was there at that exact concert. I still remember as clear as day after all these years. I was only sixteen at the time and now I'm 68 years old turning 69 in February. What a good time seeing them live.

Very impressive how Valli could control his falsetto in a live performance. He sounds better than on record!
@scuzzydirtbag
@scuzzydirtbag 10 жыл бұрын
Not so sure that was a live performance. No microphones and almost every group lip synched their songs just in case someone messed up.
@gs8388
@gs8388 10 жыл бұрын
scuzzydirtbag Of course, you may be right. It's hard to tell. But there are a lot of close ups, which is brave of the director if their lip synching wasn't impeccable. I'm still impressed.
@jeedobeck
@jeedobeck 10 жыл бұрын
scuzzydirtbag I think they would've used a boom microphone hanging just up and out of camera shot. I'm not one of these people that think just because they were great that this must have been live, in fact I commented on another of their videos that the musicians were asked to mime, but in this case I do believe it was live because the vocal tone differs from the recording and back in those days you didn't record a 2nd version to mime to you would mime to the original recording (as FV & the 4 seasons did in some of their bigger production performances).
@scuzzydirtbag

You may well be correct. I just can't tell. Anyway thanks for the comment.

scuzzydirtbag I see absolutely nothing in this video to indicate that it is not live. This was a group with real talent. They could do it live and this is evidence of that. Not many groups today can say that.

Saw Frankie in Boston just the other day on March 23rd. What an amazing night it was. I took my Mom and my wife. I'm still blown away by the show. It was fantastic. In about the mid ‘80s, I worked as a banquet beverage manager. For New Years Eve we had a package deal for overnights guests. It involves my crew and bartenders setting up over 20 mobile bars, 6 in the main ballroom, every private suite in the hotel, etc. I didn’t even know who the band for the ballroom main event. I was busy setting up the ballroom bars, and the band was onstage setting up to do their soundchecks. I had my back to the stage. They were powering up. They suddenly broke into Sherry, and the hair on my whole body stood up- I was speechless. Completely blown away at how great they sounded. I’ll never forget it.

I was already loving this video but when they segued into Ragdoll I was so moved by the beauty of it I broke down into tears. Yes, tears literally streamed down my face because I was overwhelmed by the sweet harmony of their voices and the sweet, poignant lyrics and melody of Ragdoll. Today's contemporary music simply does not have as profound an effect on me as the beautifully written and beautifully sung music of the '60s. It was truly a magical and golden era for music.

+Jed Lahaman I got to see them live in about 1967 or 1968, from the 4 th row of a concert hall. It may just be this recording, but they were distinctly better when I saw them. At that time, they were just "The Four Seasons." The " concert hall" was the converted basketball court of the little University I attended then : Tennessee Tech. On the fourth row, you got to see the sweat on Frankie's face, as he put so much into singing. It was a great night. The University is half way between Nashville, and Knoxville which must have been the reason we were able get them to perform at such a small venue. Seems like it lasted two hours with a break in the middle. It was awesome. The drawback, is today , I'm an old man looking at 70 years old soon. Those guys were great.

Great performance. They are singing wonderfully and those Thunderbird guitars have that quintessential early 60s rock sound. The Rag Doll harmony is so heavenly and poignant. And last but not least Bob Gaudio is pumping it on the organ.

Remember working as a venue crowd controller back in the early 1970s in Washington, DC when the Four Seasons appeared. As a Haitian young man I found the gig very interesting. 🎶🎵🎼🙂😉😀

Met Frankie about 20 years ago backstage at one of his shows. Nice man and great well produced show. All the bells and whistles. At the time he was using in house sound guys. Outsiders basically and i knew one of them that controlled Franks mic that night..He was left baffled by the experience...... lets just say Franks a gangsta..lol
