I was born and raised in Red Bank, New Jersey and was honored to be a professional musician for 17 years which were one of the best times of my life. I worked for the Garden State Parkway at 19 years old and left in 1978 to join the Navy where I spent 17.3 years and retired in 1995 as a Legalman 1st Class Petty Officer. My last gig was with Nicky Addeo who sang for Danny Di Veto's birthday party and who is still working today and has made a name for himself and appears on KZbin. To see Frankie and the Four Seasons inducted in the NJ Hall of Fame, makes me so very happy that another one of the many talents has come from the State I was born and raised in. @@MikeCee7 Long was just a stage name. Not sure if anyone knows why he used “Long” and not something more Italian. But what a great bass player and showman he was! And a very kind soul as well.

@@ScrewballMcAdams Thanks for the info. Seems odd, that he would choose a plain generic sounding non-Italian surname, when all four & in their manager all have Italian last names. (I mean that’s one step away from using the surname of “Smith”) - I can understand Dean Martin, & Tony Bennett, changing their given Italian surnames, because they were solo artist. And also, they became famous significantly earlier than The Four Seasons, so times were a little bit different back then. - I only knew of the 4-seasons from the 1970s & onwards. (whenever the “Oh what a night” song came out) - Sounds like you’re you’re a big fan of them. but I now rewatch this video (from when I posted on this several months ago) At 3:52, did Frankie Valli get shorter? (or did the other two members get really taller?) At the 2:28 (& more so at 2:54) clip, Frankie doesn’t appear that much drastically shorter than the other band members were.
@ScrewballMcAdams Жыл бұрын
@@MikeCee7 Like most older folks, Frankie does indeed appear to be shrinking. I’ve been a Seasons fan ever since Sherry was released. I was about 12 y.o. then. While I was saddened when Nick Massie left the band, I felt Joe Long’s stage persona and superb bass playing (I saw them live many, many times) really elevated the band. I was so disappointed when they replaced him. A few years before Joe left the Seasons I spoke with him via telephone (arranged by a mutual friend). I was struggling with a major career decision and he gave me some really good advice. He also revealed that when he wasn’t working with the Seasons he sold life insurance as a side hustle. A few years ago I emailed him to tell him how important his advice had been, to update him on my career choice and to thank him for setting me straight. He still remembered me and our phone call and the advice he’d given me years before. He said he was living in Vegas at that time and if I was ever out there I should look him up. Unfortunately, life got in the way and I never did. But I am forever indebted to Joe Long for helping me make the most important decision of my life. He was a warm, friendly, down to earth guy with a heart of gold. RIP Joe Labracio.

These guys are living legends and are one of the most successful bands in music history. Oh and yes BANDS!!!! They were self contained, did their own writing and played their own instruments. I say this because at times they are referred to as a vocal group. The 4 Tops are a vocal group, which I enjoy very much, but Valli DeVito Gaudio Massi Long are a self contained BAND and one of the most successful musical entities today, own the rights to just about everything they have produced. What sucks about life is.....getting old and becoming frail. I look at bands such as T4S, how they've aged and it just upsets me that life is like this. One minute they are young and have a great life and next....well age creeps up and takes it all away. Oh, they can still sing as they did and their shows aren't as enegertic, but the magic of those yester years seem to wash away their old looking exteriors and for a brief time, it's the 50s, 60s and 70s all over again. Thank you T4S for all the music you wrote and performed which makes up a lot of my life fabric. You'll always be young whenever I watch videos of your earlier years. Thank you!
