This is one of the best games I've played this year and I don't think the scoring mechanism is quirky at all.

4:40: I think you played it wrong here. In the rules' FAQ it says: "If my opponent leads a 9 (Witch), do I have to follow the 9’s suit or the trump suit? You must follow the 9’s suit if you can. A non-trump 9 is not treated as if it were in the trump suit until after both cards in the trick have been played following the normal rules."

So if I understand correctly, playing a non-trump 9 is an automatic win if the opponent has a card of the same suit in their hand, and a likely win if they don't. And a 9 also counters an 11 if the second player doesn't have a 10. Seems like a pretty powerful card. Or an annoying card if you're shooting for 0-3 tricks or trying to avoid 11-13 tricks.

My wife and I enjoyed the game. Not a game we'd play for hours on end but a solid, quick and fun game. Be interesting to set if any expansions come out to make teams or larger free for alls.

Try Red7. It's not a trick taking game but it's a compact card game that is fast and requires planning ahead with some interesting choices

Bummed, I was excited for it when the nice cover art came out. And it's a 2 player exclusive too, just what I look for. But the majority of cards look so dull. Only the high suit cards live up to the cover art. The rest looks like a standard deck of cards. I expected more art throughout.

I agree; the cards should all be illustrated. And the choice of suit colours is rather unfortunate, too.

All odd-numbered cards have illustrations. So that's 18 out of 33 cards, or a little more than half of the cards (55%) The suit colors are chosen to fit the theme of the suits. Light blue = winter/day, orange = autumn/twilight, dark purple = night/darkness. The colors are pretty well suited to various kinds of colorblindness. conillet I agree with the color scheme as well. Two of the colors are too similar. The art is sparse as well. This game is a pass when games like Arboretum and Parade do what this game fails to do; shine!

Does the number on the decree card play any part?, like when a trump card is played does it win only if the decree card number is higher than the lead card number??

Nope, doesn't matter. Just the suit is taken into account.

Well, it does matter, but indirectly, right? It's now a known card in the trump suit you know is NOT in your opponent's hand. While this info is known to both parties, it's still valuable info.
