Skip to 4:20 to drive over the bridges in a storm.
Gephyrophobia is the extreme fear of bridges. If you live in southern Illinois, western Kentucky, or southeast Missouri, you've got a great opportunity to experience Gephyrophobia by driving over the bridges at the confluence of the Ohio and Mississippi River. These bridges are known for their dizzying height and narrow lanes.
More information about the bridges can be found here:

I'm local as hell to these videos. Grew up in Ballard, lived in Paducah, partied in So-ill. I've driven all these bridges a thousand times. they have NEVER not given me at least a bit of anxiety, Keep up the channel, man. good stuff!

I've been over the one from Kentucky to Illinois 20 times. Many was right after the flood in 2011. The other bridge was closed. Had to go through cario Illinois each time.

Reminds me of the old bridge that used to be on highway 79 between Paris and Dover, Tennessee over Kentucky lake on the Tennessee river. I used to white-knuckle the steering wheel every time I crossed it and almost always met a semi at the crest. So thankful they replaced it back in the late 80's/early 90's with the 4 lane bridge that crosses Kentucky lake now.

I'm from Michigan, we have a LOT of bridges, but I used to have to drive across this one in my semi all the time. Not a big fan. It's so narrow, especially when 2 trucks are passing. I'm not afraid of bridges... I'm afraid of water. Funny, coming from a native michigander, but it's true. I prefer driving it at night because you can't see the water under you.

My mother's family is from Cairo, IL and my father's family is in Tennessee. I've been over these bridges many times over the years and they used to frighten me like crazy especially as a child!

I drove over these recently. It was white knuckles and anxiety. The roads leading to and away are also narrow and uneven, with no shoulders. I took the long way back.

Crazy narrow bridges. Must be easy to negotiate in a snow storm.

My Dad and I tried to cross both bridges while towing a pontoon boat. We ended up meeting an oversized load. There was only about a couple inches between us; it was very very claustrophobic indeed.

I haul a loaded tanker across the chester bridge from Illinois to Missouri at night I can say it not scary to me because it just dark but man does that bridge move on you it used to have a 25 ton limit but it doesn’t have one any more don’t know why but it’s a pretty good short cut

And it is closed a lot of times because of flooding. One of the last times I was down that way I was trying to get home from Missouri. Got to that bridge then had to take a huge detour to Metropolis or Massac or somewhere across the boonies.

In both Western Kentucky and Southern Illinois when you are talking about the boonies that is exactly what it is out in no man’s land no streetlights, narrow two laners dense woods, pitch dark. You are also next to that notorious New Madrid fault line that could pop at anytime. No thank you!

CROSSED THE 2ND ONE DURING CONSTRUCTION TWICE LATE 70'S IF MEMORY SERVES. BUT THE DECK WAS TORN OFF ONE LANE WITH A VIEW STRAIGHT DOWN NEARLY 100 FEET TO THE OHIO RIVER BELOW! TRAFFIC WAS STOPPED! IT WAS UNSETTLING TO SAY THE LEAST.

Barkley Regional in Paducah, KY. The is actually a scarier bridge from Paducah to Brookport, I’ll on Hwy 45 that is as scary (but with fewer semi traffic) there. I live in the area and don’t mind the Hwy 62 bridge from Wickliffe, KY to Cairo that badly. The US 51 from Cairo to Charleston, MO terrifies me. I drive out of my way to avoid them.
