I have crossed The Lake Pontchartrain bridge over a thousands time. My father help to build this bridge, he tied steel. He was a skill iron worker/rod buster. He would tell us how he had to swim in the water and walk on high scalpers. Also, he helped to build the New Orleans Superdome/Mercedes. Lastly, he was in the Ironworker Union. I'm so very proud of my father. The late J, W. Monday, Sr.

So glad you included the grass bridge. I watched a documentary some years back showing how one group of women gathered the grass, then another group wove it into long strands about the diameter of their arm, and then the men joined these into the length of the span and then platted them into the main suspension spans ending up with what you show here.

Looool Kakum made this list. went on school trips when younger in Ghana. I’ve walked those 7 bridges several times. It is only scary when you are on the only one on the Bridge it seems it swings more. It is up very high in the tall trees of the rainforest. When you look down you can’t even see the ground. Oh I miss Ghana.

Some of those bridges just look dangerous because of their height about the ground. You left out the original Tappan Zee bridge in NY, over the widest part of the Hudson River. When I last crossed it, decades ago, it was OK. But apparently, it really deteriorated over the years, to the extent that it has since been replaced. There are also apparently thousands of other bridges in the US that might not look dangerous, but have degraded into terrible condition, such that people using them don't have a clue how much they are taking their lives in their hands when using the bridges.

I have been over the Royal Gorge Bridge a couple of times when I was much younger. It's not dangerous unless you do something stupid. The Mackinaw Bridge. It connects the Upper Peninsula of Michigan to Lower Michigan. It is 7 miles long. It is known for big storms & high winds. Sometimes the bridge has to be closed because these winds have blown vehicles off the span. It's a long way down to the water below.
@marieannbrooke5239

Only 5 miles long. They do escort some vehicles across in high winds with a speed limit of 20mph. Very occasionally do they close it. And they will drive your vehicle across for you if you are afraid. On Labor Day it is closed from 6:30 til noon so people can walk across it. 21,000 crossed in 2021. Only two vehicles have gone over the side. One was a suicide and they other was a small car called a Yugo. Also a possible suicide. We have crossed it many times I. Our car/ and 45 ft motorhome with a car being towed behind. Only twice did we have to be escorted across.

I have gone over the Skyway Bridge in Florida, & it was a horrible experience. The high peak of the bridge looked like it disappeared into the sky before we reached it & once we crossed it. I HATE BRIDGES! & very high highways! My anxiety will not let me cross them.

I've driven over the Deception Pass Bridge many times and it is a favorite to take visitors for a walk out on. I've also taken my boat under the bridge. That requires any boat with out a powerful enough engine to wait for the tide to be flowing the right way to pass under.

I used to cross the Sunshine Skyway to go back and forth to work at the fire department in Charlotte County. I lived in Largo, FL (not Key Largo) in Pinellas County. There were also several people that bungee jumped off that bridge (it was more like a swing with everyone strapped together) when the swing broke and everyone was thrown into the water and that’s a very tall bridge. I believe all survived but a couple had to be revived in the water.

Michigans Mackinac bridge can be a very scary trip. It's 5 miles long over the straits of Mackinac joining the lower and upper peninsulas. When the wind kicks up on the Straits it can be quite a ride. Weather can get so terrifying on the Big Mac and the lanes are so narrow that the bridge authority offers to help overwhelmed motorists across. There are semi drivers who only use the transport service because they're afraid to drive it - even in good weather. I live in the Upper Peninsula and during a blizzard the bridge moves (suspension) and it can be a little un-nerving. the bridge will shut down totally if the weather is too bad.
