Ahead of a longer van escape next week, I grabbed the opportunity of a quick overnighter with friends down in Staffordshire at a great little campsite:

It was my first trip with the new wheels on too. I've switched to 17" alloys from the old 16" steelies and to general grabber AT typres. I'm amazed at the difference they've made, not just aesthetically but the driving experience too.

Hi, I’m Sue from Lancashire, UK.
This channel is just me getting out and about in a converted VW Campervan, occasionally with friends but mostly solo. Fun, laughs, moans, groans, mistakes, and successes. It’ll all be in here!
I’ll share new places, hints, tips, any info I discover and whatever else I think you might find useful.
I began vlogging my solo travels in ‘Vanya’, to help me re-engage with life following the sudden, tragic loss of my husband nearly 3 years ago now. Working through a very complex grief has been the hardest & loneliest challenge imaginable. Some days it still knocks me completely sideways and probably always will. I really don't know. All I do know is that life can change forever and irreversibly in an instant.
By returning to the vanlife we had enjoyed so much together & embracing a new found love of video creation and vlogging, I’m continuing to build strength and balance to move forward through this completely unforeseen and unwanted next chapter of life.

I hear you completely, it’s such a relief when it starts getting easier. I found the loneliness on the first few trips crushing until I adapted. Bet your dog is a godsend on these trips. Great video. Have to tell you I picked my van up yesterday and have been out today getting gas etc. passed three other vw’s and all waved ! So pleased😊Nowhere planned as yet but open to suggestions to calm the first night nerves.

Congrats on the new van! I would say book a campsite close to home for your first trip while getting used to your van. That’s what Idid. Knowing you’re not too far from home is a confidence boost should you encounter any difficulties. Also people on campsites will always be happy to help you if you’ve any newbie questions. The River 2 is a gamechanger for us after using a traditional leisure battery for years. 2 phones, 2 tablets, intermittent charging our little cooler box from Friday to Monday still 16% with just one extra charge from the van cigarette socket on a 30 mile trip. Plus dinky size and lightweight as per your review. It's good to see things in a woman's hands! Also ordered the 160 W solar panel. Only arrived 2 days before we went and when we opened the box no connecting cable, buy separately, £25! Did order through Argos as wanted click and collect, not deliver to home. That didn't work out, hmm. Wonder if you get the cable if you buy together direct from Ecoflow.

But I am happy to be behind the wheel again - it was so connected with the last few hours of mine and Patrick's life together that I wondered if I ever would or could again, but my life was getting so closed in and I was so lonely that I needed something to change.

@@ColinOBear Oh Colin I absolutely get that having also shut down to life for too long. On my first few trips I felt crushingly lonely and lost for what to do or what I could enjoy alone. It’s a major transition in every way emotionally and practically but in time and with perseverance I’ve come through the other side where I just crave being out and about and sleeping in the van among nature. It’s where they’re closest to us in my experience. I hope you manage to get there too, baby steps, no rush. Message any time if you need a friendly push! ❤️🙏🏻 x

Hi, thank you. The rain stopped in the night and it was sunshine the next day so nothing, not even the screen cover, was wet when packing up. There is an overhang on the pop top so the canvas itself rarely gets wet unless rain is blowing directly onto it. I’ve never had to put it down wet. If I ever did I’d just make sure I stuck it back up as soon as I could afterwards for a proper dry out.
