The number of migrants crossing the English Channel in small boats has reached a record high, causing concern among authorities. With the arrival of warm weather, there has been a surge in the number of boats heading towards the White Cliffs of Dover.
The situation has become so alarming that fishing boats are now being used to collect the dinghies, as more and more people are packed onto them.
TalkTV correspondent Victoria Innes spent a day on the English Channel to delve into what is happening in the waters, how migrants are crossing and what the French authorities are doing out in the middle of the sea.

However, they have to abide by International law which ALLOWS asylum seekers to come here in any way possible as the UK do not provide safe routes and asylum seekers MUST be on UK soil for their application to be processed. To simply not allow it would break International law and may breach some NATO regulation as well. We've been left out in the cold on the international stage enough as it is, I don't think being booted out of NATO would help the UK do you? If the UK really wanted to stop this they would simply set up a processing centre in Fance as the French have suggested. The traffickers would be put out of business overnight. My wife and I took a cruise to New York one year. David Cameron said in Jan 2010 that if he won the election, he would limit net immigration to "tens of thousands" per year. In Jan 2017, May reiterated her commitment to reducing net migration to below 100,000 p.a. In 2022, net migration to UK was 606,000. In 2021, it was 488,000. Over a million in the last two years. The Conservatives are in their FOURTEENTH year of power and still blaming everyone else.

Surely the French rescue boat should 'rescue' them in their own waters and take them back to France? If the UK rescue boat takes them to the UK. Or should we start escorting them back for the French to pick up. It really annoys people because some of us can't afford passports to go abroad, especially with a big family of say 7 people, the passport costs would be the price of a holiday..
